See, this is the part that gets me.  Those balloons are registered and tracked.  Did nobody think to check the list before the massively expensive and over-responsive scrambling of jets?  Are we talking balloons that weren't properly registered?

I still think it was damned nice of that balloon to decend to an altitude the F22 could actually reach and shoot it down from, after cruising thousands and thousands of miles more than 5 miles higher.
