700 million users data leaked, LinkedIn breach reportedly exposes data of 92% of users, including inferred salaries

And if true, an even scarier one from earlier this month, Private Data from 50+ Million Americans Being Sold Online.  The combined cost for both data sets to the bad actors that purchased them was $55k, and given the size there's likely a lot of overlap with the same individuals listed in both.  For those unlucky people this is just some of the information they'd know about them:

    Full name
    Social Security Number
    Address
    Phone number
    Date of birth
    Email address
    Work Email
    Mobile Phone
    Inferred Salary

That's a lot of info, more than enough to steal a lot of money or cause a lot of harm.

Well, I'm probably affected. But I don't remember giving them my SSN. I sure hope I didn't.

There are no secrets anymore.
I checked LinkedIn and there's no mention of the breach. I'm not surprised they don't want it widely known.

I closed my LinkedIn account years ago, before I retired, so I doubt any of my info was involved, but if it was it's all pretty outdated.

Luckily never set up a LinkedIn account. I know my info is out there and honestly it should scare me more than it does. But given the amount of websites that require I fill out personal info, it's just part of modern life.

I use linkedin to hire professionals for various jobs. It is very good for that. In order to job search you have put a resume on the site that is available to anyone. There is a lot of data on a resume you would prefer not to give to fraudster.

I have never had it ask for a TIN or SS# though. Never, ever provide a SS# to anyone unless it is required by law.
