S&W $4 neck knife.

This was a deal I post in Bargains & Discounts. It sold for $3.88 iirc. Just got it today. Its not bad for $4. The retention on the sheath is excellent. Its a very small knife though. Not really a hand knife. So much as a finger knife. I would not wrap my hand around this knife. I would use my fingers. If that makes sense. Not big enough or a good enough handle to use with your hand wrapped around it. But hey. For 4 bucks!

The sheath looks like you might be able to mount a Tek Lok on it and use it as a belt knife rather than a neck knife.

I got 4 of them today (the other 4 are off exploring WV from the tracking, and they shipped a day before these).  I agree with Moab's assessment of them, but mine seem to have extra strong retention.  You almost feel part of a comedy skit where you tug and tug and tug and finally get it to pop free, only to have it fly from your hand and stick in a piece of furniture across the room, quivering. Still, for the price, I'm not complaining.  If I keep one for myself it'll be relegated to letter-opener status/duty, maybe package opening and occasional "I'm too tired to get a knife from the kitchen" office eating duty. I'm also thinking a good silicone tape wrap job on the handle would help with the grip.

Lmao! So true. The retention is ridiculous. I guess as a proposed neck knife. They wanted to make triply sure that it wouldn't fall out. Amd grip tape is a good idea.

I was also going to say the same thing about it being a letter opener. Thats exactly what it rinds you of when you hold it. Its the exact same size as a letter opener. 

Its no wonder they were put on sale. Its like a great first graders knife. Lol. But still not complaining. Its a cutting edge.

So I got one of these knives thanks to NT2C sending me one and I've got to agree about the size of the knife and retention thing.

Compared to a CRKT Stiff K.I.S.S neck knife I bought years ago, the S&W blade is about an inch longer than the CRKT blade. The handle is also a bit more narrow than the CRKT blade, but there's also the fact I had different scales put on the CRKT by Rednex a few years back.

Originally the CRKT K.I.S.S came with a crappy nylon cord wrap on it and Rednex put some nice wood scales on it to widen the grip a bit.

The retention of the S&W sheath is tight, but I figure it'll loosen with time to the point where it doesn't require two hands to remove the knife from the sheath.

As for my idea of putting a Tek Lok on it, well, that's out the window since the only one I have isn't wide enough to meet the holes on the sheath.

The size of the handle is a bit too small for my hands. It fits, but the handle damn near disappears in my hand. Other than that, it's comfortable, a little more slick than I'd like, but a quick wrap in some grip tape would help with that.

Overall, it's not a bad knife despite the minor issues with size and retention of the sheath. I'm going to say that it's possible that not all the sheaths will be as tight as the ones we got.

Also, the three of us (Moab, NT2C and myself) are also a little larger than the average person, so folks with smaller hands or of smaller frame size will probably have no problem with the handle size. The only problem they may have may be the stiff retention and maybe the slickness of the handle.

I wonder if the reason these knives were so cheap is if they were discontinued to make way for a newer model ?
