I was just looking on the Costco site and realized, holy crap, it's now the day after the First Day of Summer, and they don't have a single Halloween or Christmas item out for sale yet.

The guy who puts them on the site is on vacation until Wednesday, so the decorations will pop up on the site after he gets back.

I thought Halloween and Christmas were now celebrated in February? And now over? 😉

I think at some point it comes full circle. And this year's Halloween will be billed as next year's Halloween and so on.

Happy 2027 Halloween! "Hope you took advantage of our early 2027 Halloween sale we had in 2025!"

Great, our sense of the present is getting lapped by next year's holidays. First cellphones and the internet made geography irrelevant. Now retail marketing is making time itself irrelevant.

This is why I drink.

Eventually they'll just roll all the holidays into one big sales event and come up with a goofy name for it.

Like for October, November and December, they could call it HalloThanksMas or something.

So true. Maybe we should just put our Halloween orders into the system for the next ten years on our first day of employment? Part of your new hire orientation will be a meeting with a purchasing advisor. That will help you decide where to spend all of your income on consumer products for the next ten years. So as to save you time researching and choosing on your own. They know best after all.  🥴

This will be especially true in the military, where your detailer will also be your new car/truck dealer ("Sure, you can afford that $135k truck on your E4 pay with easy 39.9% credit terms!")

Ya. I bought the stupidest vehicle ever when I was in the Marine Corps. But I only spent $4000 on it. Still that was alot of money then. But I bought a 1956 Chevy Cameo with a 427 Corvette engine. It's a truck with an original fiberglas bed. It was pearl white with flames. Lmao! A ridiculous vehecle. Probably got 7 miles per gallon.  But I thought I was so cool. I drove it between Seattle and Camp Pendleton Ca just north of San Diego - twice. Lmao! One time I dropped a transmission in northern California. Had to leave it at an almost abondoned gas station. I put my dress blues over my shoulder and hitched a ride in 5 minutes all the way south to Camp Pendleton. A friend and drove back it, almost to the Oregon border, and replaced the transmission on the ground next to the gas station.

What a dumb ass. I thought the guy in legal that bought a Honda was a wuss! Lmao! I can only imagine how much less gas I would have burned. I drove a truck with a 427 Corvette engine 1300 miles  - four times. 🤪

This doesn't make me nostalgic for the 10 years I was in retail. As soon as we finished pushing out the back to school displays to the clearance aisle at the end of August, we got the first wave of Thanksgivahalloweenmas that was 12-18 pallets on one truck. We always had to make it all fit in the stockroom while we were already bowed up from the summer stuff. God forbid it was during hurricane season and we still had 20+ pallets of bottled water and mixed canned goods set out on the speedwall.

Unrelated, my current Walmart ad banner had a legit MSA Millennium PAPR gas mask with powered filter pack, family sized tents, car cargo rack, portable solar generator with folding 400W array, and two offerings of 16oz canned meat packs which made me go hmmmmmm...
Nowhere is a very big place to get lost.

That truck in good condition is worth about $100K these days.
