Conceptually, it seems similar to this, which I bought last summer when the three pack was on sale for $6.50.  They've been surprisingly useful.  Especially the one that lives on the right hand shoulder strap of my daily use backpack.  I use it to light up the gravel walk leading from my driveway around to the unlit entrance to my home.  It can be very dark at night and these little things kick out an astonishing amount of light.  I usually toggle down the power setting because it starts on high, which is way overkill.

The one you linked to has a few extra tricks up its sleeve, like a more focused flashlight function, more color lighting settings, and the all-important, SHTF-approved solar charging option.  Assuming it works as advertised, seems like a bargain.

Let's see if we can get @KentuckyCarbine to work one of these into The Frostbound Silence.  What do you say, KC?  I'm thinking Ross and Sara connect with Professor Martin (aka "Closet Prepper in Academia") again, who gives Sara one of these.

"Sara, dear - your account of what happened to you and Ross in that darkened apartment building sounds absolutely terrifying.  Here, I want you to have this.  You're in good hands with my esteemed protege looking after you. And I daresay our Ross here sees you as far more than just a fellow survivor, and I can see why," he added with a kindly, avuncular wink.  "But this might come in handy if you two find yourselves in another bind.  See?  It's both a flashlight and an area light, and it attaches anywhere.  To a pack, a zipper pull, even affixed to a metal surface.  Think of it as more than a tool, consider it a talisman.  For good luck," he quickly added.  Then, adopting his most professorial tone: "To quote the great J.R.R. Tolkien, May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out."

Sara accepted the tiny light gratefully.  Then she elevated on her toes and kissed Professor Martin lightly on the cheek.  "You are such a sweet man, Professor Martin.  I can see why Ross admires you so much - he talks about you all the time.  Are you sure you won't come with us?"

A post-apocalyptic tale of love, loss and redemption. And zombies!
