Columbia Sportswear does not refund tax.

It's illegal not to refund tax when you return an item in California. And most states. But Columbia has figured out a way around it.

In your initial return email they waive a "refund fee". Then they give you a total of your refund that does not include the tax you paid. If you ask for your tax back they unwaive the return fee. Basically keeping the tax you paid either way.

Last time I returned something they agreed to refund return shipping. Refunded it. And then charged me for it - TWICE.

I'm longer purchasing from or recommending Columbia Sportswear. They've been in business 85 years. I've been a customer for over 20. Not anymore.
