You don't often hear about the bombs that don't go off, but seems to be a good catch by the police.

QuoteThe High Point Police Department wrote in a news release that someone called 911 on Sunday to report an "armed person sitting in the parking lot" of Wesley Memorial Church in High Point, North Carolina.

QuoteAfter Milliken was arrested, officers searched his truck and found two flamethrowers, two crossbows, over 500 rounds of ammunition, rolls of black duct tape, three knives, oxycodone pills and a carbon dioxide-powered launcher designed to resemble a handgun, police said.

According to court documents also allege that the suspect had a notebook with addresses of churches, schools and public buildings, GPS coordinates, body armor, radios with police scanners, handcuff keys as well as an enlarged map of North Carolina.

He was charged with possession of a weapon of mass destruction, impersonating a law enforcement officer and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.

"A carbon dioxide-powered launcher designed to resemble a handgun" feels like such a weird way to refer to a pellet/Airsoft gun, but I guess it's technically correct.

No firearms yet he had 500 rounds of ammo.

That's the part that has me curious.

Was the ammo actual firearm ammo or 500 rounds of pellets/BBs for the "carbon-dioxide powered launcher" ?

I'm wondering about the WMD charges. Last I checked flamethrowers were legal to possess in North Carolina, and crossbows and pellet guns don't count as WMDs either.

Maybe it is like "burglary tools"?  Possession of a crowbar, hammer, etc isn't illegal unless you have them when you get busted for B&E.

When are we going to start studying these mass shooters? Relevant questions seem to never get asked. I know a large percentage are on medication for mental health. I am not against medication. But having been on these types of meds before. I can see the likely risk. Many come with very relevant possible side effects. And many are on them. Could explain so many of these "Karen" episodes as well. I have never seen such outlandish behavior in what appear to be normally stable people.

But my point isn't that it's about the medication. My point is that it is not about the firearms or method of weaponry. Which appears to be the blanket answer for all of this.

This is relatively new behavior in our society. Yet no one can seem to stand up and say "Hey. Maybe we should look into why this is happening?". I have no dog in the fight as to why. Other than I refuse to blame it on the 2nd amendment.

We also seem to have this rash of trans people involved. At the same time micro plastics and other chemicals are killing the male sperm count. And even turning male frogs to female in locales where these chemicals are ever present. The latest studies show male sperm count will be at zero by 2045. It's literally decreased by an alarming number in the last 20 years. Someplace close to 50% iirc.

Point being there are any number of possible reasons why so many people are losing their minds. Yet between the powerful pharma companies and legacy media - we don't seem to be discussing the obvious - why is this happening?

Yea, 500 rounds of ammo sounds a lot scarier than 500 pellets or BBs.  This is such bullshit.

On the medication thing, I know as a teen when I was rotated through some anti-depressants (later deemed to have been something I never should have been put on due to the doc that put me on them not understanding teenage boys) the result was mostly just me hating everyone else.  So I could definitely see it being a contributing factor.

I don't know if it is this lax still. But over the last 20 to 30 years every general practitioner and their brothers uncle's dog could prescribe depression meds. With no formal training in psychiatry.

I was on several for many years under top licensed psychiatrists. And even then I could see the problems. I eventually got off of everything. And am happy I did. The power of diet and exercise has all but been erased by the medical establishment overall.

But if you weren't careful I could see the results of psych meds being catastrophic. They also have a habit of combining drugs with no real studies into their combined effects. And this and poor or no studies to begin with - gets swept under the rug by big pharmas control over the media and everything else. Including studies.

Yet they continue to blame the guns. No one has the power to even say out loud in a press conference "maybe we should study this?". Statistics show most mass shooters on medication. But when was the last time you even heard of an intiatice to study this problem overall. And even attempt to get to the bottom of it. Rarely. Just continued coverage of how bad it is. And if get rid of guns the problem will be solved. But even in other countries we are simply seeing a change to knife and vehicle attacks.

Heck if I even wrote this opinion in Facebook it would probably get equally lambasted by one side and maybe applauded by the other.

I don't know what happened to freedom of speech. Or even open dialogue. It feels like our entire society has been Jerry Springer'd.

Thanks, I was picturing one of those T-Shirt/Beer can launchers.

A bb gun with a 500 cnt. bag of bb's makes more sense.

Impersonating a police officer? Cammo and body armor. Uh, oh. I think there's a lot left out of this story.

@Anianna how 'bout this for a flame thrower:

He sounds tactically challenged. I wonder if that's a valid defense? To stupid to pull off a crime even if he tried? Lol. Probably not.

That happens.  Intellectual/developmental disabilities, age (teen/young adult), mental health issues, etc, are often mitigating factors in filing charges (or even if charges are filed), plea bargaining or asking for a reduced sentence, or for a judge to issue a reduced or qualified sentence.  If there are co-occurring factors (e.g. intellectual disability combined with ADD, autism spectrum disorder, mental health issues) it is more likely.

It can be a mixed bag.  A lot of people with intellectual disabilities receive harsher sentences because they aren't able to fully-comprehend what they have done/planned, or to fully-participate in their defense.

Any bets on if he was already under court supervision for mental health issues?

That's pretty much what I figured as far as the "flame thrower".  Mine is similar but has a length of hose so you can put a little distance between the flamey end and the propane tank.
