I'm not at all surprised. The majority of those 50,000 employees at LAX are low paid. And live in the same communities as every criminal organization in the city. Which have ties world wide. It doesn't take much to get someone to cooperate or look the other way. It's like that all over the city. I'm sure this route for drug distribution was discovered by employees decades ago. And simply shared with neighors. And then spread from there. Everyone knows someone into a good scam. If they aren't already involved in their own.

If you know someone at DMV you can get a real driver's license. That actually scans into the state computer system. If it were ever checked. Need your car smogged? That can be paid for too. I know guys that do it. Need a gun? Need credit cards? Need a credit card machine? Need a SSN card? I could show you exactly where to go. Who to ask. And as long as you fit in. It's easy.

Have an easy scam you can run at your place of employment? You can easily find help. It's just a completely different world than the rest of the nation understands.

Huh.
Two of my kids have started talking about moving up here because of the crap happening in their areas.
I told them I CAN NOT support them. I CAN NOT house them. They would have to make it on their own. PERIOD.
It's not easy to live here. BUT I trust my neighbors, I trust my local PD. If anarchy hits up here, I trust the local gun store (seriously). I know probably six people up here that would hand me a firearm with no hesitation if I said I was in need of one.
There is something *different* about living in such a remote area. We police ourselves, for the most part. We help each other. The social construct is different up here.

I have several firearms that I brought here before they started their computerized system. Any arm that gets transferred since then is subject to being registered.

There is no gun registry in law. But this is how they get around that. By not allowing you to buy ammo for that firearm. If you don't have a gun in that caliber registered.
I'm still reading this and shaking my head, because I can see my own state doing the same.

I'm going to the outdoor gun range next week with my son for Fathers Day. I have several pistols that were brought here (CA) far before the states computerized system. Or any of these crazy laws. But like I said, there is no state wide registry. But you won't pass the background to buy ammo for them if they haven't been run thru the system.

I would like to shoot several of them with my son next week. They sell reasonably priced ammo at the range. But I am afraid of taking them with me. I don't know if they ask to inspect your firearms. Or will even sell ammo for many of them. As they are in calibers I have not run thru the state database before.

So you're in fear of somehow losing your guns even if you were to transport them. Or try to buy ammo for them at a range.

No. Let's say you have 8 pistols. But only 1 of them was purchased in the state after they started recording sales in their statewide computerized database. Which started maybe 10 years ago(?).

Any guns owned prior to that did not have to go into the state database. There was no statewide registry. No forced registration of your firearms. There still isn't.

If you owned 7 of those 8 pistols prior to the database. But you bought one after the database was set up. You can buy ammo for that one gun at a gun store - only after passing the ammo background check.

If you try to go buy ammo for any of those other 7 guns you owned prior to the state database being set up. You will fail the background to buy ammo. Unless that caliber shows up as a gun you transferred in the state database - since it was setup.

So if you have a .357 that you've owned since prior to the database. But you've never purchased/transferred a .357 since the database was set up. They will fail your background for ammo if you try to buy .357 ammo.

Thus creating a partial firearms ban on any guns owned prior to the database - by never allowing you to legally buy ammo for it. Unless you happened to say buy another .357 since the database was set up.

It's little, tiny, line item, incremental steps towards an outright ban. In fact, it probably won't be called a "ban" at all. It will be a collection of many, tiny rules, that no one notices in it's entirety. But it will end up leaving the vast majority of citizens not being able to either own or shoot a vast majority of the guns.

Like the "roster". They put out a list of guns that you are "allowed" to buy. The rest are illegal. That by itself took thousands of guns out of reach.

They also passed laws that no new guns can be sold in CA without being able to have the serial number stamped on every primer by each guns firing pin. This was passed years ago. And the technology still doesn't exist. It didn't even exist when they passed the law.

The list of legislative road blocks that have been set up to stop gun ownership is massive. Online retailers can't sell to CA residents without applying for permission from the state of CA. This is why so many online retailers simply won't sell to anyone in CA. The administrative process is daunting and continual.

They've literally sat down and come up with every tiny little hassle they can to make it impossible or more difficult. In July there is a new 11% tax on rifles. Or maybe it's ammo. Firearms and transfers are already higher in CA than anywhere else. A transfer is $100-$125. The price of new guns is easily 20% than anywhere else.

I just told the story on here somewhere. Where it took me 6 hours, standing on concrete floors with no bathroom, to buy a pistol last month. That was over 3 trips of 2hrs each. And 2 other trips I gave up because the line was to long. Imagine how long the lines would be in your state if it took 6 hours for each person to buy a gun? The state has set up so many administrative roadblocks for customers and stores. It's stopped a huge percentage of customers and stores from buying or doing any business.

They figured out that getting something banned was to hard if you tried to do it all at once. Everyone would see what they were doing. And not agree to it. And you accomplish the same thing by doing it incrementally. Making tiny little changes, rules, ordnances, policy changes, lists. It's been going on for years here.

They would never have passed a ban on all the guns, ammo and situations you can't have a firearm or ammo for. But when done in tiny "harmless" steps. They've gotten way closer in a short span of maybe 10 to 15 yrs.

It won't be called "The California Firearm Ban". It will be called "California rules and regulations for firearm safety, possession and sales in California".

But it will be the same thing.

Death by bureaucracy is what that is called. It does not have to be illegal just such a pita that people do not want to go through the hassle.

This also applies to environmental permits, business permits and various other permissions..

Third world countries use this bureaucracy as a revenue source. Thier employees it use to obtain bribes. You can be sure that people with "friends" have no problem getting what they want.

The logic is similar.

That sucks and I get it. But I'm saying; If you have 10) different model 9mm handguns and only one is registered. They all take the same 9mm. You can supply all 10 with the one registered handgun? Right? Probably have max ammo purchases per date range per registered handgun? Like 100 rnds per month per gun, if you don't, you will soon. So get ready for that.

What also works is that when they come to take your one registered gun, your 9 grandfathered guns are in their respective caches. Along with the ammo.

Are all your handguns different calibers?  :smiley_nah:

There were a bunch of caliber consolidation threads that would have worked for prepping for this scenario. Think on old ZS. Maybe here on UFoZS.

We've got to assume that at any moment there will be no more ammo available ever. For whatever reason. Do we have enough ammo cached for when that happens?

They are doing the same thing with small farms. With water. This should alarm everyone. Search YT by "small farms closed water". OR and ID have closed hundreds of small farms for over water usage. Big business is trying to take over water. Hundreds of small one acre to several acres farms are being closed across large swath's of land by the state.

Yes. All different calibers. If they were all 9mm it wouldn't be a problem. And none were 9mm. My newly registered pistol is 9mm.

I don't have enough cached for the other ones. Most of them I inherited from my BIL who was LEO. And are all different calibers. I was going to have someone just ship it to me. Then the online ammo ban got lifted. I thought it was for good. Found out at the LGS it was only for 2 days. Still not sure what I'm going to do. I have enough for my Glock .357 SIG, Beretta .22, and will get enough for my new 9mm.

The rest are .38 special, .380 and a bunch of large calibers .357 etc. revolvers. Not to worried about those as anything but trade and backup arms. I have an ok stockpile of AR and AK ammo. But I have one each of those being transferred back into state. So I will be able to buy more. At inflated CA LGS prices(!). My main stockpiling will be done once we move.

It sounds to me like a caliber consolidation is in order to 9mm.

You may want to consider selling off the non-9mm firearms and using those funds to inventory more 9mm. That is unless you have plans to relocate. A 9mm with ammo trumps any firearm without ammo.

I didn't buy them that way. They were all inherited. No plans to sell any of them.

The 9mm I just bought is the one I will stock up for. The .22lr Beretta I will always have ammo for. And the Glock is .357sig. But it's gen 2. They only made 2000 of them. My grandfather gave it to me. So not only do I not shoot it. I doubt I will ever sell it.

The plan is a G19. But not until I move. As the only one approved to buy in CA is the G19 gen 3.

When I move I will get a Glock 19. And carry that and the Hellcat.

LA isn't that bad. That's crazy. But unless your killing someone no one gives a shit about LA traffic laws. The freeways are like a car race. Except no one is a professional driver. People get run over in surface streets on a daily basis.

In an a true major event these streets would quickly turn into a parking lot of chaos.
