Just got my spyderco tenacious with green g10 scales. Its one of there budget models. I owned a couple spyderco knives back in the 80s. And that smooth ergonomic quick opening fell right into place. As soon as i placed it in my hand. I have owned many pocket knives. But none have the ergonomic handling that a spyderco has. I am very pleased.

Now lets see if it will hold an edge. :)

That is a good looking knife.  Never owned a Spyderco, though I have heard so many good things about them.  It appears yours has multiple options for mounting the clip, which I do like.  The one complaint I have about  my Griptillian is that it is only adjustable left or right side, and is always carried tip up.  I would prefer it tip down for ergonomic deployment, but for now I don't have plans to replace it.

I have a Spyderco Endura.  Got one in Iraq, lost it, and bought one to replace it, I liked it that much.  From what I understand, the steel Spyderco uses is actually pretty good, and should hold an edge well.  Enjoy that Tenacious!  :D

I've got a pair of them.

First one I picked up at a Big 5 in New Mexico and I liked it so much, I went back and bought another one. I probably overpaid for both of them at the time, though. I paid 65 bucks a pop, but Big 5 is well known for jacking up their prices to a stupid level. Apparently Big 5 corporate thinks their customers are stupid and won't compare prices with other stores. :rolleyes1:

Anyway, I've been carrying a Tenacious as part of my EDC since 2015 when I picked mine up. I even picked up the larger Resilience, though that one may be a bit too large for EDC.

I bought black scales first. Thinking id just get some green micarta scales for it. I love micarta. But the only option is a set of brown scales on ebay from russia. That takes months to get. And cost $50. Thats more than i paid for the knife. Another place overseas will do green micarta for $70. But again that's pretty spendy and a long delay.

If anyone knows a custom shop or place i could get them. Let me know.

So i just exchanged the black for green g10. It will do. Eventually id like to find micarta scales for it tho.

There was a guy making custom scales on Amazon, but he was only making them for the US made Spydercos and not the Chinese made budget models.

I wonder if there's anyone on Etsy that's making custom scales for the Tenacious or any of the other budget models.

Could you order the material and DIY it?

No one on etsy. To diy youd have to be set up for woodworking. Im mostly set up for metal working.

I would think there would be a big market. Probably alot of their low end models have sold

I don't think most people modify their knives, so it's probably a pretty niche market.

Hell, at this point, I'm not sure most people sharpen their knives.  If they do, all too often they use some crap like this.

Oh. I know. Right?! Im a real snob when it comes to sharpening knives. My father had me sharpening knives with a wet stone when i was a young kid. If you cant sharpen a knife with a wet stone. I dont feel like you should own one. Or at least thats the philosophy that was passed down to me. I wasnt allowed to own a knife until i could prove i could take care of one. Same with firearms.

I sharpen my kitchen knives obsessively.
