No reason given, but the AT&T appears to be down, along with other services that use it.  73k people without service and growing.

Oddly enough my Ham radio still works just fine...   :smiley_clap:

The articles that I saw said that over 73k had reported that they had lost service.  So many more are likely out, but hadn't reported it.

Did they use their HAM radios to call it in?  :greenguy:

Not just AT&T, but Verizon's still up here in South Central Tejas

Test run, or maybe intentional outage to capture ip addresses on reconnect?

Good dry run for EMP regardless

I had issues in south ms. I did not report it. I suspect most people did not report the issue and that may bring down the impact count.

I got my phone service back only a few minutes ago.

I will never claim to have all the answers. Depending upon the subject; I am also aware that I may not have all the questions much less the answers. As a result I am always willing to listen to others and work with them to arrive at the right answers to the applicable questions.

AT&T customers in my part of Texas were reporting outages this morning.

Verizon is still up and running with zero issues. So is Optimum Mobile (used to be Suddenlink).

Multiple police agencies reported their 911 lines were overwhelmed today by people calling 911 to make sure a 911 call would still go through in the off chance they needed to call 911 to report a 911 emergency of the type that 911 lines were set for to be used for only in the case of a true 911 level emergency.   :headbang:

Solar flare that only hit the satellites? Or are we still under attack from foreign enemies hacking our systems? And they want us to believe it was solar? Probably not. But the whole thing makes me want to step up my faraday cage plans.

Chatter I'm hearing locally is a couple towers went down possibly due to high winds and poor maintenance.

How could that create a nationwide outage? Reports I'm reading are a solar flare.

There were two large solar flares. But ATT is reporting that it is unlikely that it is related. But they have also not given a reason why the outage occured.

From spaceweather.com

QuoteCELL PHONE OUTAGE: While solar flares can affect communication systems, it is highly unlikely that these two X-flares contributed to today's widely reported cell phone outages. The flares, while intense, did not cause a solar radiation storm. Moreover, the shortwave radio blackouts they did cause were too brief and too low in frequency to interfere with most cell phone communications. Other explanations are more likely.

The "other explanations" basically just said "human error."  I wonder if we'll ever find out what the cause was.

My money's on it being "Technician Bob got drunk, climbed the tower while singing 'Spiderman, Spiderman, does whatever a spider can...' and then tried to zipline down. Technician Bob is no longer working for AT&T."

I would be surprised if ATT could even find their own ass! I have had them for various services for 30 years. They suck on every level. They are the new Comcast.

All I have left is ATT fiber internet. And I will switch as soon as Sonic has new lines installed in our street. It took me 2 yrs just to get fiber installed. And I wasn't waiting for lines to be installed or anything else. I can't tell you how many free Visa $200 gift cards I never received. Or how many hundreds of hours I have spent on the phone with tech support or with them in my home.

Just switching from ATT cellular to Mint was huge. I went from $300 per month. To about $90. With excellent service.

I think this outage is more cross country hacking than anything. They would never admit if they were unable to stop it. Just for simple intelligence strategy reasons.

Only people who had self-reported specifically to the Down Detector website were in that count.  Reports to other sites or directly to AT&T are not counted in that number.
