This years best pocket knives range from Benchmade options for $150 to what appears to be a great bargain knife for $16.

In what appears to be a major chinese manufacturer of high end US knives ( i think Benchmade is one of them) they make a $16 knife that reviews very very well. I mention this $16 knife as it would be a great candidate for a cache knife. Or a truck knife if you will. Something of good quality but you wont mind if it gets stolen or lost. So check that one out.

I just got the Spyderco Tenacious G10 for my birthday yesterday. Its on the list. But at $56 its a mid range offering. I wanted a Spyderco. But wanted to try one out first. I will post up a review once i get used to it. It feels great in the hand so far.

As for the Spyderco Tenacious, I've got a pair of them along with the larger Resilience.  I use the Tenacious as my EDC folder (I also carry a Schrade/Uncle Henry Golden Spike fixed blade) and it has served me well for the past five or so years I've had it.

Of the 80 or so knives I own (I used to have a lot more, but I've downsized a bit over the years.), the Tenacious is the one I carry the most.

That Senrenmu looks an awful lot like my Benchmade Griptilian G-10, without the Benchmade slide lock (I forget what they call it).

I had no idea Ganzo made automatic knives.

I've been looking for one of those Buck 110 autos, but they're out of stock pretty much everywhere I've looked.

Closest thing I've got to an automatic knife is a Smith and Wesson M&P OTF (not sure who makes those. I know the folders are made by Taylor, but I'm not sure who makes the OTFs.) I got from Academy. It's a decent knife, but nowhere near the quality of something like a Benchmade or a CobraTec OTF.

I've actually got a Ganzo Firebird (or Firebird Ganzo) sitting right here at the desk with me - it's my mail/box-opening knife.  I bought it because I didn't want to spend Griptilian-money on a knife and this was basically the same design.  Very smooth action and holds an edge really well.

If you live somewhere where Amazon.com won't ship knives    you can try your hand at AliExpress. Roughly 80% of the things I buy there arrive and (so far) I've always been refunded for the other 20%. I haven't yet bought a knife from there but it should be OK ...

Didn't Joerg Sprave do a couple videos on the Ganzo knives a few years back ?

I seem to recall he had a thread about it on the old site and the models he chose held up pretty well to his tests. Granted, most of them were broken or otherwise damaged by the end, but his tests were way above the normal sort of stuff these knives (or any other brand) would be subject to by an end user.

I don't recognize the model, but that logo on the box is sending up a red flag to me.

I don't think Benchmade has ever used a colored butterfly on their logo, but it may be an older box or logo and I could be totally wrong.

ETA: I just did a quick search on that knife and there are indeed fakes floating around. There's a thread on BladeForums about fake Benchmade knives and on the second page there's a very similar fake F71 that looks an awful lot like yours, NT2C.

I bought a benchmade bugout on wish. It was highly praised on youtube as an exact knockoff. It was very hard to tell the difference according to the reviewers. But i was not impressed. And very glad i had only spent $38 on what amounts to a box opener. But then again it is praised as being light weight. I guess for a "bugout". But i was not impressed. It was a pos to me. Glad i didnt spend $138. Or whatever they go for. I felt ripped off at even $38.

I will pick up one of those Land models above for $20. But have no illusions it will be as impressive as a real benchmade. As long as i get a good $20 knife out of it ill be happy. A $15 Buck knife will last damn near a life time. No reason they can't make one of these that lasts. The outdoorgearlabs review was impressive. And all but called out that it was made in the actual Benchmade factory in china.

Im liking my real spyderco tenacious tho. Even if i cant find micarta scales for it. I like it so much. I will probably buy a spyderco native. And have micarta scales made for it. I cant seem to beat the ergonomics of a spyderco in my hand. Ive bought a few pocket knives in the last several years. And none compare to the wearability and ergonomics of a spyderco for me. But i still dont understand all of the different opening mechanism that abound. Maybe that Land knife will impress me.

The consensus seems to be if you want a real Benchmade, you'll need to buy one direct from Benchmade or a trusted dealer.

I found it on eBay and it ticked all the boxes of what I was looking for (small, under 4" blade, assisted, flipper, drop point or clip blade) Okay, it's a spear point, but close enough to a drop point as to make no difference.  It's destined for pocket carry in my sweats, replacing my Buck 055 that is always getting lost in the bottom of the pocket and can't easily be opened one-handed.

ETA: That it might have been a Benchmade was just a bonus.

I thought it was a drop point at first. It doesn't look like a spear point blade to me, but I'm not quite as knowledgeable about blade shapes as I probably ought to be.

Are Benchmade not made in the US anymore? I thought that was a big part of their claim.
