I'd take an AI PCP over the garbage doctors I've had any day.

Of all the devices that can be connected devices, a toothbrush seems the most useless.  What does it even do (when it's not hacked and taking down websites)?

Agree! My first thought was why the everlasting $&*@>! does anyone need an internet-connected,  AI-enabled toothbrush?

Good grief. What's next? An web-based spoon?
A post-apocalyptic tale of love, loss and redemption. And zombies!

Only thing I could think of was that maybe it's some sort of app to monitor how long you brush each day, which seems completely useless...

Imagine getting a Blue Screen of Death when you try to use your web-based spoon to eat some Haagen-Daaz ice cream. :eek1:

My electric (not connected) toothbrush has a timer to help the user brush for the recommended time.  The only thing I can think of that might be useful in regard to a connected toothbrush is parents monitoring their kids' hygiene.

That and combining together with millions of other toothbrushes to form one mega-toothbrush (Voltron style) to battle other giant home appliances!

(I was going to say "personal hygiene items", but had a sudden, non-PG thought about some of the items that might include...)

Ever (Zombiepreparation)

Quote from: Anianna on December 22, 2023, 03:53:04 PMI don't know how much science and tech news you guys are reading, but I feel like there has been a significant increase in articles about AI making new breakthroughs particularly in the medical industry.  AI discovered a new antibiotic, AI discovered a better hydrogel that overcomes the problems of hydrogel, and so on and so forth.

Consider how knowledgeable and adaptable AI has to be on these topics of medical concern to successfully overcome the challenges that held us back from having already made these discoveries.

Consider what that means for us if AI ever deems us unnecessary.
Josh Clark (from Stuff You Should Know) did a podcast about just such a thing.

An artificial intelligence capable of improving itself runs the risk of growing intelligent beyond any human capacity and outside of our control. Josh explains why a superintelligent AI that we haven't planned for would be extremely bad for humankind.

Like you @Anianna, he has quite an impressive intellect and gives us a very thoughtful For Instance If... scenario.

Here's the link to that 41 minute episode. Clicking 'play' should start it.

Imagine your TP dispenser saying you've exceeded the manufacturer's recommended amount of wipes per day and that you've been blocked from using it for 24 hours.

Or having to input a passcode each time you want to use it.

That would suck. :gonk:

A lot of terrible parents use TP rationing as an abusive tactic.  We do not need to give them the tools to make it easier to abuse their kids.  At least my stepmom had to work at abusing me.

I didn't even think of that...that's horrible!  Unfortunately, I can envision a world where resources are limited and just about everything is limited/metered.   I must have read too much sci-fi as a kid.

There is a demographic crash going on in Europe and China right now. When there are no longer populations in the working age groups, supply chains will fail, and probably only work regionally. 2030-2050.

I just worry about AI controlling anything near you while your pants are around your ankles and you're sitting exposed on the toilet.  If there's a way to terminate an obsolete meat-sack human with a toilet paper dispenser, SKYNET will figure it out.  :eek1:

So....let's take a long hard look at this...
Besides the aforementioned toothbrushes, what else in homes is internet enabled/compatible?
Refrigerators
Toilets (yes, some of those hi-tech Japanese ones)
Stoves
Toys
Of course, lights and cameras.
Alexa, Echo, et al.
What are some others?
