Trying to decide what's more surprising: what a moving, heartfelt sentiment from her manager, or that she even still had a manager at age 100.

I guess in show business, you always need someone to manage publicity, fan relations and royalties even if you've been retired for decades. Either that or she was one of those lucky souls who kept doing what she loved right up to the end of life.

Her and Sarah Holcomb (who played Maggie the Irish waitress) were two of the reasons why I watched that movie when I was younger.

QuoteMary Weiss, leader of sixties New York band the Shangri-Las, has died at the age of 75.
...
The Shangri-Las encapsulated the height of the early-sixties trend for teen tragedies, with the girls documenting their melodramas with songs such as "Give Him a Great Big Kiss" and 1964's "Leader of the Pack" — a track that went on to become a number one hit that year.

QuoteGreat musician, comedian and satirist Peter Schickele has died at his home in Bearsville, New York. And as the world says farewell to one of the most talented and admired parodists of the last century, a favourite Beethoven performance is being shared anew.

Schickele was born in 1935. He studied music at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania and then composition at Juilliard. It was in New York where he began exploring musical comedy, and in a 1965 performance, he debuted his comic alter-ego P.D.Q. Bach.

Named in a play on the vast family of Baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach, P.D.Q. was, according to Schickele, "the youngest and oddest of Johann Sebastian's 20-odd children", and (of course) entirely fictional.

Wow, I just took a deep dive into the Burma Railway starting with that wiki link.  Assuming this is the same wartime railway featured in the Alec Guinness classic Bridge Over River Kwai?
