Wow.  That really is unusual for Maine.  We really are a sleepy state.  Reports are now saying 16 dead. 

I'm about 25 miles from Lewiston.  I don't feel personally threatened, but just to be on safe side, I locked the doors and loaded up the Sig.  Gotta tell you, it feels weird to even be saying that.

The distance from the first shooting to the second appears to be about 8 miles, so he is moving around.

They are saying his name is Robert Card. Possibly as many as 100 casualties.

There are some reports of possibly being two shooters at different locations. Seems unlikely, but not impossible.

Can't confirm at the Maine Sex Offender Registry. Both their sites are down due to heavy traffic.

Police had a press conference. Here are some of the results. The town is requesting air/ medical support from Boston. There is a possible fourth shooting site.

I'm about 90% sure that is the sex offender as they have the same name, age and general appearance. Some are saying he is also military but not sure where that came from.

At least 22 dead, 50-60 wounded.  All schools in this part of the state are closed tomorrow.  I got to step away from the computer and my phone - this is too depressing.  Hoping for better news tomorrow.

A police bulletin identified Robert Card, 40, as a person of interest in the attack that sent panicked bowlers scrambling behind pins when shots rang out around 7 p.m. Card was described as a firearms instructor believed to be in the Army Reserve and assigned to a training facility in Saco, Maine.

He had apparently been treated for mental health issues this past summer.

Authorities are now declining to provide a casualty count, stating the situation remains fluid.   As is so often the case, information reported as "facts" in the initial hours following a tragedy can turn out to be anything but. For instance, this morning the police are saying that there were only 2 locations where the suspect opened fire - a bowling alley and a bar. Last night there were reports of additional casualties at a 3rd location - a Wal-Mart distribution center.

Praying the final casualty count is lower than the numbers I was hearing last night.

It is always pretty chaotic. I'm sure they will notify the families first.

They need to put him down. I know Maine is the least densely populated East of the Mississippi. There are whole counties (UTs) out there with practically no people in them.

Yep, and thank you. I would not be bothered at all if the final number in the 'killed' column of the casualty list increased by one.

We are 2 hours away from Lewiston.
That being said, we also have a border crossing less than 20 miles away.A friend is married to one of the guards and told me this morning they started calling in everyone in the wee hours.
I went by the store this morning. Just about everyone is on edge a bit.
All local cops have been called in, too.
Some parents didn't send their kids to school.
Some sent their kids, but have pulled their kids out now.

Hoping they catch this asshole soon.

I have a feeling this guy isn't going to surrender quietly or get taken in alive. He'll probably try to shoot it out with his pursuers at some point and end up dying of high speed lead poisoning.

This whole thing reminds me of that mass shooting we had in Odessa a couple years back. Only difference is that guy didn't make it long enough for a manhunt to be called on and instead he got taken out by DPS and Odessa/Midland PD before the day was over.

News media says this guy's National Guard associates describe him as an expert marksman and a skilled outdoorsman.  Which is depressing because that means he might elude law enforcement for a while yet.  And take a few more lives whenever they do corner him.  

I just want this guy dead.  I don't care about his mindset, his motivations or his inner demons.  He just needs to be taken out of the equation before anyone else gets hurt.
