Humans are disgusting creatures.  And this isn't the first time this has happened.  Stop flushing needles, junkies.  (I know no one here is a junkie, just needed to vent that out)

Fair, I missed that.  Though that surprises me with how much diabetics are encouraged to use sharps containers.

I'm with FBN, my first thought is someone dumped them.  My google-fu is lacking today,  didnt someone do that in the 80's or 90's ?

While I would love to harp on who is responsible, I think the prepping question is "what do I do to minimize danger from this?" And from a prepping perspective, I fear I need to be more careful about needles in recreational areas.

"Who is responsible" and maybe "how do we hold them accountable" fall into "politics," I think.

The issue is real, and not confined to the East Coast. But does generally seem to be an urban issue. I've seen far more of it in urban areas than rural areas.

There's a beach near Sabine Pass, Texas called "McFadden Beach" that's had pretty similar things wash up onshore.

It wasn't the cleanest beach even when I was a kid and it's even worse now from what I've heard.

My first thought was some medical waste company decided the cheaper route to disposing of bio waste was dump it on the water.

Went to a park pre covid for a bbq and needles were everywhere. It's a sad state when parks are getting to be like that and kids have to be extra careful.

I think it's endemic.  2021 has shown a distinct disrespect for public spaces, ranging from local parks to national parks and monuments.

The fact that several national parks are at least temporarily disallowing RV boondocking because people wouldn't pick their shit up is kinda infuriating.  To say nothing of twits variously vandalizing stuff at parks.  And I've seen people complaining about the same issue at regular RV parks.  I've leave this particularly egregious example:

For those who are wondering what's going on: that's someone's (probably the bigass RV in the background) sewage hose on the park's picnic table.  Sewage.  Hose.  On.  The table. 

(And that smiley only because I can't find one to properly express "nauseated, disgusted horror".)
