So I got a Swiss-Tech Stahlern fixed blade a couple weeks ago (it was an early birthday gift from my mother. I also received a CJRB Pyrite button lock folder from her as well.) and figured I owed y'all a thread on it.

These knives were announced by Swiss-Tech last year before Christmas and prior to the end of last month, were an online only deal. They only recently began popping up on the Walmart shelves along with the other Swiss-Tech blades like the Gerundet and Wurdig (I did a review of those awhile back. Not sure if anyone saw that or not.).

Overall length is about 8 3/4" and the blade length is about 4 inches with a cutting edge of 3 7/8". It's a full tang knife made of AUS-8 steel (same as on the Gerundet and Wurdig folders) and has green canvas micarta scales.

My only negative on the Stahlern is the sheath. While it's a serviceable sheath, I'd have preferred a leather one with a retention strap, but that probably would've raised the price a bit.

The Stahlern is $39.99 at Walmart (total on mine was about 43 bucks after taxes here in Texas) and is a great deal for anyone looking for a decent bushcraft or even an EDC fixed blade.

Aside from me not liking the sheath (I might try to find a suitable leather one at some point), I've got no real qualms with it. It's nice and light, but still has some heft to it despite it's smaller size.

Here it is compared to my B'Yond EDC Slim flipper knife that I picked up when NT2C was here last month on his epic road trip.

Both blades are of similar size and I'd like to see a folding version of the Stahlern as well. Keep it the same size and I think it'd be a good seller for Swiss-Tech.

ETA: Forgot to mention the sheath for the Stahlern is a plastic one with a multi position belt clip. It's even got a spot for the included ferro rod (which stayed in the box for me. I don't really use them anyway.)

By the way, this is the video that brought this line of knives to my attention.

ETA: This video was released 8 months ago and these knives were not yet available on Walmart shelves.

Here's the latest one where they just start hitting Walmart shelves. Beez (the guy in the video) also mentions the new Listig which is a Victorinox SD clone, but with G10 scales instead of whatever plastic Victorinox uses.

Agree, it looks like a good value for a bushcrafting knife.  I know you don't use it, but does the ferro rod appear to be decent quality?  And kudos to Swiss-Tech for upping their game.  All I knew them for were gimmicky mini multi-tools.

Sadly, $40 is still a lot for a Wallyworld knife from a less-than-revered brand that doesn't either come bundled with a useless paracord "survival" hatchet/hex wrench, or is festooned with flaming skulls.

Maybe I'll be looking for this on clearance shelves sometime after the holiday shopping season.

It does look to be of fairly decent quality. I haven't used it, but from what I've heard, it'll throw sparks pretty damn good.

And if these do go on sale around the holidays, I might pick up another one. I'm planning on buying the Praktisch, which is Swiss-Tech's Leatherman Wave clone, soon as well.

@majorhavoc, here's what the Stahlern ferro rod looks like. It's fairly small (roughly 3 1/4" overall), but it sits nicely in a little spot on the sheath for the Stahlern.
