It has sunk 8' in the last ten years. They are claiming something about climate change and then cite illegal ground water pumping as the cause. Either way it could be underwater in 30 years or less. 40 years ago I heard similar claims about NYC. It is still there.

NYC has been sinking and that's been cited as one of the reasons they've had more trouble with flooding in recent years.  Storm water is directed into the city and the city is sinking to meet the groundwater level, so there's really nowhere for the excess water to go.  That won't improve without mitigation efforts. 

Some reports say that sea level is rising in heavier cities, including NYC, more than double the speed at which it is rising in the rest of the world (4.5mm/year as opposed to 1-2mm/year).  Unless something changes, it's only a matter of time.
