Right out of the package, this light had issues, starting with being unable to get the damned thing to work without being connected to the USB charge cord.  At first, I put it down to a very depleted battery, but I have several Sofirn 18650 spares that I know are charged and it wouldn't work with those either.

A little tinkering with a short jumper wire confirmed what I thought: the tailcap wasn't completing the circuit between the light and the battery. It seemed that the hard anodizing was a little outside of the normal boundaries and acting as an insulator. Now, let me tell you how hard this Type III anodizing is...a steel dental pick wouldn't scratch it.  An emery board wouldn't scratch it either.  Okay, time to get out my diamond-coated needle files, and...they weren't doing much to it either.  There were at least scratches now, but not deep enough to matter.

Along about that time, I realized that the head of the flashlight had twisted a tiny bit and, turning it back to tighten it fixed the problem.  Great!  Now to charge the battery it came with and...WTF is up with the switch?  The switch evidently threads into the head, and some overzealous worker on the assembly line torqued it about 5° too far.  Since this is a lighted switch with two LEDS it looks really odd.  Odd as in, this is gonna bug the shit out of me for as long as I own this flipping thing.

(Edit to add: I have since picked up a second version of this light in black and it has the exact same issue with the switch being canted.)

Otherwise, this is a pretty nice light that's powered by a 3,000mAh 18650 and the Anduril 2.0 OS for full flexibility.  Sofirn even sells a magnetic tail cap for it.  Unfortunately, though, the only color it comes in is red.  Not exactly perfect for the stock black color or the blue, green, and purple colors.

(Edit: I now have a second model of this light (in black) and this one seems to have a buggy Anduril 2 UI because even after twice doing a full factory reset I am unable to change the behavior of the LEDs in the switch, though I can with the blue one.  Go figure.  :smiley_shrug: )

If I can ever manage to fix that blasted misaligned switch this may replace the Olight Baton 3 Pro that's my current EDC when I actually wear pants.

So, I bought a second one of these, intending to give it away to a contest winner, but the box got kinda crushed in the mail so I decided to keep it for myself and use it as shop flashlight in my tool cart.

After getting the battery charged up I started having issues with the light not behaving correctly, so I did a factory reset and it was still giving problems.  I could confirm it was in advanced mode but could not set the standby or lockout LED mode to anything but the default, and none of the strobe modes were working.  A second factory reset didn't help so I tried contacting the seller I bought it from on AliExpress only to get hung up with the AI help system not having any options for defective firmware on a product.  I also turned to the "flashlight" sub-Reddit but no one there was of any assistance either.  Sofirn wants you to go through the person/shop you bought it from for return/refund during the first 30 days, and only after that time can you contact them directly.  Today was 30 days so I contacted Sofirn directly and was told to contact AliExpress.  I sent back a message explaining that I'd tried that already and was now contacting them directly since it was past 30 days.  No response to that yet but it was only an hour ago that I sent it.

And as I was writing this I picked up the light to check which color temp it is (5000K) and it's now working perfectly.   :smiley_shrug:
