A powerful tornado tore through rural Mississippi on Friday night, killing at least 14 people, destroying buildings and knocking out power, as severe weather that produced hail the size of golf balls moved through several southern states.

The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado caused damage about 60 miles (96km) north-east of Jackson, Mississippi. The rural towns of Silver City and Rolling Fork reported destruction as the tornado continued sweeping north-east at 70mph (113km/h) without weakening, racing towards Alabama.

Wow . Really bad. Multiple tornados. Death toll up to 23 and likely to rise. Whole towns destroyed.  NWS had declared tornado emergency. Doesn't get worse than that. Finger of God destruction

I was flying home in a client's plane Friday about 60 miles away from this but earlier in the day. The pilot did a precautionary landing away from some of this weather and we waited it out on the ground for an hour. I thought the pilot was being overly cautious but I kept my mouth shut since the pilot is the last word in things like this.

Obviously I was a "know it all idiot" in this case. I am glad I did spout off and prove to everyone I was a know it all idiot.
