Just a short rant on research using yt videos.

1) There are some real idiots that do not research anything before posting videos presenting themselves as experts. What a bunch of buffoons! But worse yet. What a waste of so many peoples time.

2) Everyone that posts a review video of any kind. Should be required to provide a synopsis or breakdown of there final results in the description. Even if its just a list of the top 5 products and who came in first. Then you can decide to go watch that section of his video. If you want more information. Otherwise, who has time to sit thru a 10, 15 or 20 minute video? Only to find out 9 minutes in that the guys an idiot. Or his methodolgies are crap.

I love a good "this is how you do x" video. And it has 500k views so you know its worth your time. But damn. What a time consuming way to research something that there are multiple comparisons for. Not to mention the comments!

This is where forums shine. You can sort of tell by post count if a guys been around or not. And if what hes saying is stupid. At least on a forum the other members will question and vet his information. Plus we keep stickies. Which can take you directly to the info you need. And if any of the information in a sticky was wrong you'd certainly hear about it from members comments.

The internet seems to get dumber and dumber.

Rant off.

Your argument falls apart when you consider my high post count. :clownshoes:

And what about the dos xx guy, or was it E F Hutton, they have a low post count, but when they speak, people listen.  :greenguy:

Dr Grauci just came out of the UFoZS testing facility and announced that ChapStick contains 41% White Petrolatum which is not a good fire starting fuel.

"It just melted when a flame was applied" was the pertinent verbiage in the technical release.

Just as well.  Setting your lips on fire while lighting a cig might ruin the taste.  And if your lips are on fire can you even blow them out?

I guess that gives a whole new meaning to the nickname "Hot Lips". :eek1:

Yea. He made more than several.  He was big on char cloth, chagga , fat wood and feather sticks. He also always had a couple of converted bic lighters .he would saw off the bottom. Fill it full of Vaseline soaked cotton balls and seal it with wax. . , He duct taped a loop of Paracord  and attached it to his pack.. instant emergency firekit. Cotton balls, wax, Paracord and duct tape for combustables . Flint and wheel for the spark

I have that on my keychain, along with an Olight i3r or something another, a LM Style CS and a Tru-Utility telescoping pen.  I usually also EDC a folder and occasionally a full size multitool.

But my keychain contains what I've discovered to be the bare minimum I need to get thru the day. And the maximum I can trust myself to always have on my person.

Woodswalker was the master of fire starting. I think most of his many videos were on fire starting. And one of my favorite human beings. He was one of the main heart and souls of ZS. I miss him greatly.

I wonder which fuel burns the longest? In say a sealed peanut lighter?

A peanut lighter would be an ultimate paw lighter. That sealed case for a Zippo tested at 3 months. It lit. But I have no way of knowing how much fuel might have evaporated. A peanut lighter with a good seal seems more foolproof.

I wonder if there is a Zippo of peanut lighters?

I think maybe the Zippo of the peanut lighter world would probably be IMCO, but I don't know if they're still in business or not.

The original manufacturer closed a couple of years back. They did however sell the name to a japanese one, so their most famous lighter version is still being produced. They are now made in china, but as far as I can tell the quality is the same.
If I was a well organised person I'd post some pictures to compare the made in austria vs china, but I have no idea where they currently are.

I remember IMCO going out of business, but I didn't know they had sold off the name to a Japanese corporation.
