In Western Alaska the worst storm in many years has hit. High winds and very high seas have caused a lot of damage and flooding, but thankfully so far no deaths.

Many of these communities have vulnerable sewage treatment because of high water tables and/or permafrost. None of that part of the state has road access, it's all boat, plane and other off-road options.

Hopefully the death count continues to be zero. It sounds like some reinforcement of buildings was done after previous storms. It's going to be getting cold soon which will make some repairs much more difficult.

Amen to that.  I hope that the sewage treatment issues are kept to a minimum, but I suppose, too, that the incoming colder weather could help keep some of the side effects of any sewage issues to a minimum (the smell and the bugs/vectors for illness).  At any rate, having a little time before winter sets in may help deal with some of that before it gets to that point, hopefully.
