Two things got me into the original series when it first went into syndication: photon torpedos and Nichelle Nichol's miniskirt.  Much later I began to appreciate how groundbreaking the series, and Nichol's role, were.  They were part of my childhood and my heart aches with the passing of each of the original cast.

With the passing of Nichelle Nichols, that leaves just Walter Koenig (Chekov), George Takei (Sulu) and William Shatner (Kirk) left of the main cast of the original series.

Pat Carroll, best known as the voice of Ursula in Disney's 1989 movie "The Little Mermaid", passed away July 30th at the age of 95.

Cause of death is listed as complications from pneumonia.

Vin Scully, the voice of the Dodgers, passed away at 94 year young.

I am from Brooklyn, so I am prohibited by custom and local law from ever speaking of that Los Angeles team, but Vin Scully was one of the greats.

Virginia Patton Ross, the last surviving adult cast member of Frank Capra's "It's A Wonderful Life", passed away August 18th at the age of 97.

Virginia Patton Ross played the role of Ruth Dakin Bailey in "It's A Wonderful Life" and retired from acting in 1949 to focus on raising a family with her husband.

She was also the niece of General George S. Patton.

James Yeager, owner of Tactical Response and YouTuber, passed away today from ALS (aka Lou Gehrig's disease).
