Zippo Fire Starting Multi-Tool

This just popped up in my recommended products feed on Amazon.  I never knew they made these but I may have to buy a few of them.  One for each vehicle and one or two as prizes for the website here.

That's neat.

It's like a Zippo branded Swiss Army knife.

It's for grinding/shaving tinder.

I figured that's what it actually was, but it does sort of remind me of a cheese grater.

Wouldn't surprise me if someone used it for that.

Hey, a little fresh ground parmesan on your budget prep stored pasta and shelf-stable spaghetti sauce can go a long way to make your SHTF scenario not quite so shitty.

I put pencil sharpeners (something like these) in several of my bags to use for generating shavings.  Just take a stick/branch that's about the diameter of a pencil and away you go!  Plus it can be taken apart to get a small razor blade if needed.

I'm waiting for a multi-tool where one of the "blades" is a Bic mini. Boom! There's your emergency firestarter.  :icon_crazy:

Not as a blade, but tortoise gear makes some firesteels that slot into the toothpick holder of a SAK or screw into the corkscrew. They are a bit delicate, but if you are careful work stupendously.

Now that's something I never knew. My Bic mini suggestion was semi-facetious because of course it's too bulky to be practical as an actual blade on a multi tool. But only semi because for all the bragging rights about the manly art of bushcraft and firestarting prowess, the humble Bic is a ridiculously efficient and reliable method of creating flame.

But a tiny firesteel would be a cool addition to an SAK.  About the only thing I ever found the plastic toothpick truly useful for is cleaning out pocket lint and other gunk that invariably accumulates in the cavities of an SAK.

Hmm, tips and accessories to trick out your SAK would make an interesting thread in its own right... :smiley_chinrub:

Only thing I've ever done to a SAK is put some serrations on the large blade of one.

The serrations look like crap, but they cut through paracord like it's nothing.
