The distance from the first shooting to the second appears to be about 8 miles, so he is moving around.
They are saying his name is Robert Card. Possibly as many as 100 casualties.
There are some reports of possibly being two shooters at different locations. Seems unlikely, but not impossible.

I'm about 90% sure that is the sex offender as they have the same name, age and general appearance. Some are saying he is also military but not sure where that came from.

As is so often the case, information reported as "facts" in the initial hours following a tragedy can turn out to be anything but. For instance, this morning the police are saying that there were only 2 locations where the suspect opened fire - a bowling alley and a bar. Last night there were reports of additional casualties at a 3rd location - a Wal-Mart distribution center.
Praying the final casualty count is lower than the numbers I was hearing last night.
It is always pretty chaotic. I'm sure they will notify the families first.
They need to put him down. I know Maine is the least densely populated East of the Mississippi. There are whole counties (UTs) out there with practically no people in them.

That being said, we also have a border crossing less than 20 miles away.A friend is married to one of the guards and told me this morning they started calling in everyone in the wee hours.
I went by the store this morning. Just about everyone is on edge a bit.

My roommate just got home from work and said it was very slow at work. Most people were open carry. The cops came by with wanted posters so folks/employees could see what the guy looks like.
They got a lot of last minute delivery orders. Most people wanted to know what the vehicle looked like, the driver, etc.

This might make me sound like a jerk, but I'm in agreement that this guy needs to be taken out.
This waste of space forfeited his right to life when he decided 16 people needed to die because he was mad at the world or whatever his motivation was.
I don't want to dehumanize this guy, but I'm finding it really hard to refer to him as a human being. I find it really hard to do that whenever someone does crap like this.
I feel bad for him as he likely has mental problems. Therefore I hope they kill him as quickly and as humanely as possible. Not sure why he was released from mental health when he was making threat to be an active shooter and hearing voices, likely due to schizophrenia (or possessed by a demon if you believe in such a thing). Yet again just showing how whacked our mental health system is in this country .

As an aside I will say that a lot of fuel truck drivers that deployed have a good case of PTSD going on. That fuel truck was target #1 for most ambushes for obvious reasons. Those guys saw some shit. At one point around 2005-2009 the bonus to enlist/ reenlist for fuel truck driver was the highest in the Army.

It would more likely be the latter. The Androscoggin River flows right through Lisbon. Large and navigable, anyone familiar with it would have a million and one places to pull up at an unpopulated section near a road and hike a short distance to a pre-positioned car. With a winch or come along, it would be extremely easily to drag a 15' boat up the bank and hide it under the dense vegetation. It could be days or even weeks before search parties might find such a boat. With just an hour or two head start, someone creating a massive police response in Lewiston could already be in a different car on I-295, headed north or south to parts unknown.
Not saying that's what Robert Card did, or even likely did, especially if NT2C's source re: a suicide note is accurate. Just that would be one way to do it and would certainly explain why they found the car he used to escape the scene at a boat ramp in Lisbon, ME.
In any case, I'm headed through that area later today on my way to a back country weekend in the western mountains. Not sure what to expect. Checkpoints maybe? At the very least, Lewiston will be a ghost town - that and the surrounding towns are still in lockdown. Communities need to come together at churches and vigils after tragedies like this, to mourn and support each other. That community can't even do that, isolated in their homes.
That's a big reason why I'm harshing on the need to just off this guy ASAP. So my neighbors, coworkers and fellow Mainers can begin the (long) healing process.
