Moab - This is the link I use, I think it might work for you...  give it a shot:

https://ufozs.com/smf/index.php?action=unread;all;start=0

It lists anything that I havent opened and read. After I read the threads/posts that interest me, I click on the "mark all messages as read" to reset (if you will) my position.  I have that link set as my direct link to the board.

Thats awesome. I will use it. But its not important if I use it. Its important that rank and file members and new members have a link on the homepage to see new topics. Or why would you come back if you don't see any new topics being posted to the forum?

For some reason I don't think I'm communicating this correctly. Or its importance. I've asked for help here.

Thank you for that link, SCBrian.  I've bookmarked that because it certainly pulls up many, many more thread topics than when I click on "Unread Posts".  So I think there's definitely something to what Moab is getting at.  I miss some functions too, like being able to see the number of page views on the threads that I happen to start.  I need to experiment with some of the 8 different forum themes that NT2C mentioned and see if some of those missing functions work under a different forum theme.

But let me be clear: I'm more than willing to put up with a certain level of flakiness in how these boards function.  Because the alternative is (and nearly was, until NT2C stepped up) no ZS/UFoZS at all.  Which would have been a damn shame.  I have faith that we'll all get this sorted out eventually.

Agreed. I'm not criticizing the site. Just trying to point out things that might make your site keeping return visitors coming.

Is there any way to have saved drafts exist forever? there is warning that they will be automatically deleted after 7 days.

I used to, and would still like to, use that as a storage for certain info that I might not like published but would like to reference. Drafts are like a private thread for only that person. Does that make sense?

It makes perfect sense, I just need to be cautious about storage space as this place grows.  I can bump it to 6 months, maybe a year, but since drafts are done automatically as you type (every 30 seconds) we could quickly run out of room.

I only see the drafts I've actually clicked the save button on in my saved drafts files. the automatic saves aren't in there that i can see. Are you sure they are saving all drafts every five minutes until auto deleted? How would you recover that if you can't see them in your saved draft file. What happens when you click post or cancel the window? Do they delete all drafts? cause I've done both before and those drafts didn't appear to be saved where i could access them.

Sometimes I'll start a response [i'm at work remember] in the morning and won't finish until a few hours later. At one saved draft every 5 minutes that could be 18 every 3 hours.

I just checked again to make sure and I only have three drafts including the one for this post i just saved. So any of those autosave drafts must get deleted immediately upon posting or saving the draft or cancelling the post.

It's a new feature so I'm not entirely sure how it operates but it's currently set to hold drafts for 180 days and to auto-save a draft every 30 seconds while typing a post.  If you look at the lower left of the text box when typing, just below the buttons to Save Draft, Preview, and Post, it says the time the last draft was saved.

Didn't we have an option before to "bookmark" threads so we could create a list and follow a link to each one later?  I'm not seeing that now.

But I've been known to miss things before so...

thanks
but those auto saved drafts are overwritten every 30 seconds I'd think and then deleted completely if the draft is posted or cancelled, so we're not generating hundreds of drafts per post that will stick around for 180. the only ones that are actually saved are the ones that we click save on.

How do you access an autosaved draft? for when i accidentally close the tab in my browser before i hit the post button and want it back?

ETA: I just checked the previous draft I manually saved on this post and it was deleted after I opened the draft and then posted it. So its not in my saved drafts anymore.

Quote from: Moab on April 27, 2022, 07:34:21 PMI just noticed this. But there does not seem to be a link on the homepage, on mobile, to Unread Topics. Only Unread Posts and Updated Topics.

Am I missing something?

This is typically where we would go to catch up on the entire forum. As I believe it lists all the threads/topics that you either haven't seen or have been newly posted to since your last visit. Which means basically everything on the forum that you haven't seen since your last visit.

You cannot view this attachment.

The only way I got to the below was a link popped up after I opened every unread post or updated topic.

Don't know if my little Kindle is considered mobile but I don't have that prob. 👍
