The Queen is dead, long live King Chuck III (or whatever reginal name he chooses).

They have been planning for this for decades.
 

Because the queen died in Balmoral, the plan states her body will initially lie at rest in her smallest palace, Holyroodhouse, in Edinburgh, according to The Guardian.
The coffin will then be carried up the Royal Mile to St Giles's cathedral for a reception before being put on board the Royal Train at Waverley station. Crowds of mourners are expected to gather at stations along the journey down the east coast mainline to throw flowers on the passing train.
Eventually, the beloved monarch's body will arrive at the throne room in Buckingham Palace — with an altar, the pall, the royal standard, and four Grenadier Guards standing watch, the Guardian said.
On the fifth day, a procession through London will take her coffin from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster, with a service at Westminster Hall following its arrival.
The Queen will lie in state there for three days, with her coffin on a raised box in the middle of Westminster Hall, open to the public for 23 hours a day, if the plan detailed by Politico still stands.

"CNN's beloved anchor and colleague, Bernard Shaw, passed away yesterday at the age of 82. Bernie was a CNN original and was our Washington Anchor when we launched on June 1st, 1980," Chris Licht, CNN chairman and CEO, said in a statement.

"He was our lead anchor for the next twenty years from anchoring coverage of presidential elections to his iconic coverage of the First Gulf War live from Baghdad in 1991. Even after he left CNN, Bernie remained a close member of our CNN family providing our viewers with context about historic events as recently as last year. The condolences of all of us at CNN go out to his wife Linda and his children," he added.

Shaw covered some of the world's top news stories over the past 40 years, including time reporting from a hotel room in Iraq at the beginning of Operation Desert Storm in 1991. As the co-anchor of "Prime News," Shaw covered events such as the assassination attempt of President Ronald Reagan in 1981, the Tiananmen Square uprising in 1989, and the death of Princess Diana in 1997.

Shaw served as a U.S. Marine for four years, worked at CBS as a political reporter from 1971-1977, and worked at ABC News from 1977 to 1979 before his decades-long role at CNN.

Saw an article this morning about a rise in demand for the bullion coins bearing the Queen's image.  Didn't even think about it when I heard she passed but I do have a couple pics of her.

Yep, it's full national mourning in the UK for another 10 days. Then afterwards the next big thing will be King Charles III coronation, and Prince Williams investiture as the Prince of Wales. I don't know what it's like to watch the regalia elsewhere in the world, my US relatives are fascinated by it all.

Louise Fletcher....Nurse Rachett from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest among many other roles...she was 88

This one hit me kind of hard.  I knew her best for her role on Star Trek: Deep Space 9, where, like in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, she played, maybe not a villain, but definitely an antagonist.  She gave the character so much life and depth that while it was soooo easy to hate her, there were times you could just about sympathize with her.  But oh, she was so, so good at being so very bad.  

And what's really incredible about that is that the show ran for 7 seasons, 173 episodes, and she was in 14 of them.  That's all she needed to be one of the most hated characters in all of the series.  (And before I looked it up, I would have sworn she was in more than just 14 episodes...she just had that much impact, I guess.)

I found out about his passing this morning via a Facebook post someone shared from the Chicago chapter of ZS Facebook page.
