Heat Wave Pushing Through US 6/29-7/4

Gonna be hot this week. How hot? Like 100+ on heat indexes all week in some areas. 

Some might want to take precautions like bringing in pets and keeping extra ice on hand in case of power outage. I favor freezing standard water bottles (around here a 24-30 pack of 12 ounce water bottles is around $3-5) in the garage freezers and transfering them into the house frig/ freezer as needed.

Good idea to check the gennie and fuel supplies in too. 

I guess treat it like any other weather event with the expected impacts.

More people die in the US each year due to extreme heat than any other kind of weather event.

The heat index here in Michigan has topped 100F for several days in a row, but will hopefully be dropping off now.  We had a very strong line of storms that blew through the Detroit area this evening which have knocked out power for 300K+ people here.  Not great when you add those two together - no power and hot weather!  

Some friends are out right now with no word yet on restoration time (other than a generic "we should have 95% of power restored by Monday" from the utility).  I've offered to loan them my generator or some power stations.  No response back yet on that (they're probably asleep by now).  

The one fortunate thing is that with the storms that came through, the temps have dropped some.  It's still supposed to be almost 90F tomorrow, but that's about 10F lower than it has been the last few days!  Still expecting a bit more rain on the 4th and storms again on the 5th.  Highs remain in the 80s for the foreseeable future.  My a/c is getting a workout!

Over here in Indiana it's been hot temps mid 90's index over 100 for the past few days. Was supposed to rain yesterday so i worked inside till about 2pm. It hadn't rained so i mowed the yard. Then around 6:30 thunder lightning and 3 minutes of a downpour, enough to make it even more humid.

I went outside to clean the mess up on the sidewalks, driveway, and road in front of my house.  I just used the leaf blower to get them cleared.  In the 20 mins that I was out there doing that, I sweated through my shirt...  It's only about 80F right now, but the humidity is through the roof.

My friends just left after stopping by to borrow my generator (Westinghouse iGen2200), three battery power stations (three of them - Bluetti Elite 200 v2, Elite 100 v2, and Pecron E2000LFP), and my Sofirn BLR LT1 lantern.  I also hooked them up with several extension cords and a full gas can (they only had a little 2gal can) and gave them instructions on how to set everything up.  

They were just going to take two power stations, but then decided on one extra for an elderly neighbor of theirs as well.  I did warn them that it will only last around 10hrs (presuming a reasonably efficient fridge), so they'll need to swap it with a fully charged one when it shuts off.  

They did tell me that one of the main roads between our houses has a tree and downed wires on it.  It's all roped off, but not cleaned up yet.  Still around 200k w/o power right now in my area and the outages are spread across the entire region.  I can hear lots of generators running in my own neighborhood, although I still have power.
