I don't know if it was due to the weather, but a pump went out at the Richmond water plant and much of the city is without water, some are also without power.  VCU Hospital in the city is diverting transfers because they have no water.

Some random anonymous person (presumably an employee or family member) posted the issue to social media well before any official announcement or boil order was made.  This led to some confusion.  Not sure what officials were waiting for to not announce it sooner.

I just ordered 200lbs of ice melt on Walmart.com for free delivery Friday.  Total cost $55

Amazon wanted $50+ for a single bag of the same stuff that I'm getting 10 of.

The water disaster here is spreading.  Turns out many surrounding counties were diverting city water to their "less wealthy" areas.  We pay for county water and trust our county water, but it turns out we're not getting county water.  Because the city water facility is broken, several counties around the city aren't able to meet demand.  Hospitals, residential facilities, businesses, and even the international airport are impacted even outside the city.  No idea when we'll have running water again.

With a good nozzle you might be able to add 20 or 30 feet of distance!

I have plenty of stored drinking water and three full rain barrels to get us through at least several days, at least a week if we're conservative with it.  Although, the rain barrels may freeze.  We still have plenty of drinking water, just won't be able to flush toilets.  I may send my guys outside to poo behind the shed.

Might be better to cut a latrine trench inside the shed.

Stay safe down there!  If you haven't driven in snow this year (and have to drive), take your time and pretend you've never driven in snow before.  When I worked an ambulance, I heard this the first snow of every year.  "I don't know HOW I got in an accident!!!  I've driven in snow for X years and NEVER had an accident!"

We're looking at another 3 to 6 inches starting tomorrow. Been stranded up in my holler since the weekend. Yesterday they ran a snowplow up the road, but the salt spreader was messed up and only spread about as wide as a car tire. Number 1 priority this year? A 4wd.

Well, that was fun.  Managed to take delivery of my salt for the driveway (hybrid mix of magnesium chloride and calcium carbonate) yesterday morning and my driveway and sidewalk are ice/snow free.  Didn't quite get the snow all off the Jeep but he was pretty buried.  Got him off the gravel and closer to the house though  (discovered in the process that 4x4 and good tires may still not be enough to climb the steep section of the gravel driveway, and 4x4 and good tires are indeed capable of climbing the Jeep out of the ditch you might slide into sideways).

The weather guessers were pretty close here. Out of 3 to 6, we got 4.
