Jet oil systems go for $85 to over $90 here.  I have one, a gift.   I've found that alcohol (HEET yellow) is much less expensive that canned fuel.

I do have an adapter to run the Jetboil stove on a std propane bottle.

shame on me for not posting a libnk to the adapter

under $8 USD.
Works just fine.
I'd much rather be a disappointed pessimist than a horrified optimist....

Sorry guys - closed my Amazon account and am out of the fiction biz.

Please share the adapter!  We have plenty of propane, but haven't seen Jetboil canisters since the freeze back in February...

I've been looking at one for mine as a backup.

Thanks!  And yeah, auto-off is definitely useful for if it isn't connected.  Saw a guy use an adapter so he could use the 1 lb propane bottles with a regular-sized grill...and when he took it off, the wrong side came apart.  It was blowing good, and he was very lucky he had oven mitts right there or his hands might have been frozen to it.

Mine is a Fire Maple X1, one of these:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/224394438989 (currently $59.76)
When I bought mine in 2018 it was $38.99 - prices seem to have gone up in the past three years!

Here's a slightly cheaper and possibly more versatile alternative (it includes a pan support):
https://www.ebay.com/itm/154453714756 (currently $53.26)

Apologies for the eBay links, they'll work while they last.

Also, sorry for getting off the topic of the Sterno Inferno! Maybe we need a thread for Jetboils and copies?

Primary purpose for my JetBoil, currently:  Backup for making coffee.  I use an Aeropress and an electric kettle most mornings.  When Texas lost power back in February, I still had coffee that morning before going outside to get the RV ready for us to move into for a few days.

:coffee3:

Nobody wants to see me fully uncaffeinated.

I chose the Jetboil mostly for convenience and the speed at which it will boil water.  Yeah, I pay a little weight penalty, but the benefits outweigh the small weight penalty.  I will never be an ultralight backpacker so there is that.

Well since I asked for the thread I guess I'd better post something here :D

As mentioned previously I've got a fake Jetboil, a Fire Maple FMS X1. I purchased it in 2018 from an eBay vendor chosen mostly for price, and paid US$38.99 delivered (from China). It didn't take too long to turn up and looks kinda like this:

Inside the box you get the cookset/stove packaged inside a drawstring mesh bag:

What does it weigh? 520g, 18oz, a little bit more than the 511g the box claims:

Inside the bag there's the pan, the burner, a lid for the pan and an orange plastic cup/bowl:

You could probably fit a 100g/3.5oz gas canister inside pan with the burner and the orange cup, but I'm not that bothered by weight so I usually carry a 220g/8oz one instead. That size would fit in the pan with the burner if you left the orange cup out.

The orange cup doiesn't have any volume markings but the pan does has measurements pressed into it. Here you see 250ml / 8oz of water ready for the boil test:

I didn't trust the measurements and weighed the water into the pan; turns out they're pretty accurate after all.

The burner gives a convincing blue flame and a roars nicely. I timed it boiling that 250ml of water and it took 58 seconds which is pretty quick:

And that's the Fire Maple FMS X1.

I should add that I bought this cookset on the recommendation of a friend. Mostly I use it during fireworks season (the week either side of November 5th) when I spend my vacation time from my main job working for a local fireworks company. This usually involves setting up the display in the early afternoon then waiting around in a far-flung corner of a field for nightfall - and you have to stay with the pyrotechnics for safety's sake.

For a few years I packed along my ex-mil Trangia, and that was fine but when a friend turned up with a shiny new toy I couldn't resist buying one myself. It's great for hot drinks and re-heating pouched meals. I've not tried anything more challenging in it, at least not yet!

I just weighed my Jetboil Flash at 14.4 ounces with the fuel canister stabilizer but sans fuel , so a little lighter than your version, by almost a quarter pound.  With the 113g cannister in it, it weighed 19.2 ounces.  Interesting.  What is the total water capacity?  The Flash is 1L with room to not boil over.

I haven't had a chance to do a boil test yet, but hopefully this weekend.

The top graduation on the pan is 1L, so I think you could get 1.2L and still be able to boil it. Pro-rata the Flash is a still a bit lighter.

My test was under almost ideal conditions; indoors so no wind to divert the flame or cool the pot, and 16C / 60F tap water to start with. It would be good to know what a real Jetboil can do!

Will definitely report my findings when I get them!  I should also check and see where 1.2L puts the water line.  With the lid, thinking about it, boil over should be less of a problem.

I love my aeropress!  :coffee3: Usually only gets pulled out for camping trips - nowadays that's in a travel trailer.... so microwave for hot water. Before, I used a peak stove burning Coleman gas.  :coffee3:

Jetboil flash boiled 1 liter of water in 1:52 outside at 69 degrees ambient.

We went to an open-air theatre this evening. It was a production of Pride and Prejudice on the lawns of a stately home (this one), between the house and the lake. Very genteel.

Everyone (all 400 of the audience) brought lawn chairs and picnics. To the best of my knowledge I was the only one who brought a Jetboil and brewed up while we were waiting for the show to start :D

Here's the Wikipedia photo, and that's the lawn we were on:

I was going to bring my Trangia but decided against it as I didn't want to scorch the grass.
