It's a comfort thing, but don't underestimate the value of iced tea.

Make sun tea, give it a twist or two of lemon, serve with about 1/3 ice.  Skip the sugar, it'll just make you thirsty without any real benefit.  If you use a particularly dark tea, add a pinch of salt to counter the bitterness.

I do it on occasion, and I'm not really a tea fan.

Thanks everyone, some good info here for the future. Just an update from the Seattle Times

2 people died
223 were checked into emergency rooms

Seeing as how I work for an airline, and tarmacs get insanely hot. I worked at the SeaTac on the ramp in 2009 when we had the last time it hit triple digits. It was 130 degrees in the sun then, can only imagine it was worse this time. But 25 of our rampers were taken away in aid units yesterday.

Morning marine layer was back today - making it much closer to normal than the last couple days. :smiley_coffee:

Tomorrow you get a break with the temperature?

Heat wave 2021 is over. Yesterday I think it was mid 90's today only suppose to be 81. Back to normal temps for this time of year and area.

A few things that I feared happen did. We had a few people die, I have a feeling the number will go up in the next few days. The real victims were the animals. Massive bird die off happened. I saw a few dead birds around here, but in the cities I guess it was real bad. No place for them to seek shelter. ETA:luckily our local red tailed hawk is alive. Hasn't heard her in a few days, well now I'm missing those days. Ugh, love her, but soooooo loud and doesn't shut up.

This also hit us early in the summer, which will prep us to have another devastating fire season this year. There was a small fire due to over heated power line. PSE (local power company) was ready, fire was contained quickly and power restored as well. Last night I was hearing a lot of fireworks going off in the distance. Hopefully people around here are smarter and don't blow stuff up.

RoneKiln

I've started watering my lawn pretty heavily in hopes of making it more fire resistant for the holiday weekend, but I don't think I started soon enough.

I've been hearing fireworks all week.

We got over 3 inches of rain earlier this week.

Here's hoping that helps.

And yes, they were already setting off fireworks over the weekend between downpours.

Death toll took a major jump, our friends in the great white north (Canada) also got hit by the heat wave. I think a couple hundred people have died so far in BC. Down here in the lower 48, we have close to 100 that have died.

Yes. I heard. I'm sorry to hear it.

How did your & yours do? The neighborhood and the elders you spoke of? I'm imagining better because of your preparing, including the in person neighbor check-ins before the dangerous part hit.

Everyone here did just fine. The one lady who didn't have AC went to her sons. I called her on Tuesday and didn't hear back from her. I was a bit concerned but she called me on Wednesday and apologized.

It seems to be even worse for our neighbors up north. There was a town in BC that hit 124°

As I sadly predicted death toll keeps rising over 100 now for WA and OR. I believe over 500 in Canada.

I've got some relatives in Canada I need to check in on. Especially one of my cousins who had a pretty severe heart attack a few years back.

Then there's Lytton:

the horror

Beat me to it, damn, that my worst nightmare right now. No rain for weeks, just had record breaking heat, and these effing idiots are blowing off firework mortars over the property that just had all the trees cut down and have massive piles of dry branches and logs... what could possibly go wrong?
