He joins a surprisingly long list Haitian leaders who met an unpleasant end. 
Note I say leaders because Haiti has had at least one king, two emperors, several dictators, Presidents for life and elected leaders.  Haiti's history has included a revolution, an invasion and enslavement of its neighbors of the (now) Dominican Republic, the subsequent Dominican War of Independence followed by a lot internal strife within Haiti.   

BTW the fact that the gunmen involved spoke Spanish may indicate to some that they were from the Dominican Republic but who knows. There is a long history of animosity there. 

If for some reason a person wants to experience a true PAW suggest they go to Haiti for week. Don't stay in Port Au Prince but go by ground transport to Belladere, Cap Haitian or Gonaives. It will be an eye opening experience.
