Now I have made stuff out of stuff before,but I aint never thought of that. I been looking at reviews of folding shovels and was thinking of just getting the Cold Steel spetnaz shovel. Now I think ima check trash and yard sale first see if I can't find a shovel to mod like this.

My only issue with this mod is the poor heat treatment the guy did with the sharpened side.

Just barely running a butane torch over the edge isn't going to be near enough to harden it. It needs to be a lot hotter (like glowing red) and he needs to quench it in something like oil instead of just flicking water on it.

That edge is going to be super soft and will need constant maintenance. He'll be sharpening it more than actually using it.

That said, I like the idea of turning a rusted out full size shovel into a camp shovel like this. Just do a better heat treat and it'll be good.

I think you can get a used usgi etool for around $25. Now that I think of it. I think I would orefer that over the wood handled spetnaz.
