QuoteBut I'm even more hopeful I won't live here by then.

Wherever you go, remember what led to this juncture in the road. Don't bring the same ideas with you when you go somewhere else or you won't be welcome there either.
What does that mean?

It means don't bring the things, actions or attitudes that you are running from with you and make where you are moving like where you're from.   They have commiefornicated Colorado.   Denver and Colorado springs are hot heds of progressivism, over shadowing the rest of the state that is solidly conservative.

This is going too political, keep on topic please.

What about what I said - said I wasn't conservative? Lol. I think everything I was saying was conservative. I could go deeper. But I fear my views would label me a tin foil hat wearer. Lol.

I think there is equal measure fear of anyone moving  "from" California. As there is fear of people who stay here.

California's economy is larger than most countries. It is huge. It is the size of 3 or 4 large western states. The vast majority of it is rural and mountainous.

There are only three small areas that control most of the state politically. Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego. And San Diego is conservative. Leaving you LA and SF which is maybe 1/100th or less of the state. A vast section of Californians (40-45%) hate the way California is run. There is a huge contigent in Northern California that are fighting to secede from the rest of the state. And it is the vast majority of those that move - that hate how CA is run.

Its not those that move out of CA that you have to fear. Its those that stay.

Not to mention, I am not from here. And have never liked it. But I hate it when the rest of America blames all citizens of CA for its problems. Alot of my pro gun folks frequently say something like - "If you don't like it in CA. Vote differently?!". You don't think a huge swath of us always do?

Most of the people in CA that vote "like California" are generally three groups controlled by one party. The entertainment industry, the tech industry and those the party has let move here and subsidize with $800+ a month of free income and free medical care. Yes. If you are homeless or otherwise indigent you get at least $800 of free aid a month. And people wonder why the homeless problem is so bad here. And why hundreds if thousands flock to our southern border.

The other two groups tech and entertainment are a cult. If you have any hope of working in either you better tow the party line. Or you won't work. I've worked in entertainment for years. And entertainment related companies. It is the least open minded group of people I have ever experienced.

If those brainwashed idiots moved into my town I would be worried too. But I think the vast majority of those moving out are moving for the right reasons - freedom from suppression.

It's not about conservative/ progressive. It's about the idea that people should take responsibility for their own lives. Politics gets in the way of that but it isn't always clear cut and it isn't so much about politics as it is about attitudes.  There is no finger pointed at you here.

Typically the more that a state tries to "help people" the more damage they do in making people dependent upon the state for a depressing, minimalist type existence. Some places do it a lot more than others. If people never lift themselves out of poverty on their own then they began to take "shortcuts" and "easy" ways of doing things that are mostly illegal in order to "improve" their lives. This, most often in the end, has the opposite effect. The effects tend to be multi-generational.

People that work hard to improve their lives tend to become protective of what they perceived they have gained and achieved. I have personally seen hundreds of people come to this country with nothing but the shirt on their backs and build successful businesses and nice lives for themselves, with a quality of life that they could never have had in their home country. Typically they tend to be most successful in places where the state doesn't give them much of anything and they either sink or swim. Their support systems tend to be more family and faith oriented.

I've also seen people that come up with every excuse under the sun about why they can't make it. It's always either "someone else's fault" or the "system is against them". The answer is never to work harder, smarter or make better decisions. They need the state to prop them up, often because it always has.

Agreed. Completely.

He said "politics". Not ranting. If we stop ranting we won't have anything to say. ;)

I agree with you. That isn't something I would do. And why I have not liked it here since I moved. I moved here at 30 from rural Washington state. And nothing has gotten better just worse.

So anyway. Away from the topic of politics and back to street takeovers.

If I already mentioned this in this thread my apologies. I was watching a news piece last week about two teenagers. One was 16. They stole 4 cars in one day. And then videotaped themselves running over people riding bikes with the stolen cars. One guy they ran over was 78. He survived. One died that was a retired Sheriff. They ran over several people. And the police got ahold of the cellphone they recorded it all on.

They can be heard on the video laughing and urging each other on. When arrested one boasted that he was in the juvenile system and would be out in 30 days. The next day the judge trasferred the case to adult court.

But not once in this news piece or in any interview did anyone ask where the parents were.

And I think that is true of these street takeovers and other crimes. Where are the parents?

Everyone has the right to have children. But we have to do a better job of educating children - period. Many of these school districts are little more than holding facilities. With armed guards, police, metal detectors and searches. With kids that are completely out of control.

But just as important. We need to educate young people about raising children. It seems like this revolving door of ill raised children raising more ill raised children. Because they simply don't know any better. As their parents were ill raised children as well.

getting back on topic .... street take overs...

The reason mobs can do a street take over and why stores are leaving areas due to rampant store theft is simply because the bad players can get away with it.

This did not happen at least to this extent a decade ago or even 5 years ago. There has and always will be theft, robberies and crime. That said until there are consequences sufficient to keep crime in check the problem will continue to grow.

These consequences must come from the citizens to be effective. The way forward is clear, the question is whether the will to make changes is there.

Keep you head on a swivel things are likely to get a lot more spicy out there until they improve.
Folks you are on your own...Plan and act accordingly!

I will never claim to have all the answers. Depending upon the subject; I am also aware that I may not have all the questions much less the answers. As a result I am always willing to listen to others and work with them to arrive at the right answers to the applicable questions.

I disagree. It has been going on longer than five years. Although it is getting worse.

In 2015 the City of Baltimore allowed looters to run rampant with the explicit support of the mayor. This happened several times, resulting in nearly every pharmacy in the city being looted as well as a number of stores.

In Minneapolis looting has gone mostly unopposed for nearly two decades.

In places like San Francisco the cracks started appearing about five years ago. Nothing was done then. So now they have what they have.

I think we all can agree the violence and looting has been going on far to long.

And I don't believe allowing that to flourish helps anyones cause or predicament.

Neither does the idea of defunding the police. The police need more training. And help frankly.

As do those communities adversely effected by poverty and violence.

All I know is whatever we are doing? It's not working.

This is an interesting conversation about what Blackrock/State Street/Vanguard are doing to our ability to own a home and participate in our society. These three companies (Which are actually owned by each other and essentially are one company. Control 80% of the S&P.) will soon own over 60% of single family homes in the US. The average cost of a home in the US went from 200k to 400k in the last two years. Our children may never own a home.

These three companies also finance the WEF or World Economic Forum. Who's stated mission is that "everyone will own nothing but everyone will be happy".

After watching this I thought maybe our young, out of control people, are the canaries in the coal mine? Big changes in our world are afoot. And only 17% of young people are proud to be American.

Without a home you are forever a renting transient. Not nearly as connected to your community if you owned a home. And without home equity to say invest in a business or education or other means of improving your lot in life.

Maybe there is some proof to their experience? And maybe this is part of why they don't feel part of our society? And are lashing out.

Ok so Vanguard is a company that is made up of mutual funds. They own about 80K homes in the US out of the 140M homes in the US. The problem with their home ownership is that they use it to manipulate the market to drive up prices and make "profit".
