Severe T storm rolled through a little while back. Truck was in the yard for a free storm car wash. Started to hail. Pea size .  Then nickel. Grabbed my hard hat in case I need to bolt out to the truck . Standing on the porch as it goes back to pea size and starts tapering off. In five  seconds it goes from almost nothing to golf ball size hail. AND I'M OFF!!!Sprinting  the fifty feet to the truck like a much younger FBN. Hail bouncing off the hard hat. Make it to the truck. Fire it up as the hail is making those loud hammer  wumps on the truck. And into the barn. Whew... truck is ok. No damage I can see.  Standing in the barn watching hail pound down. Reach for my phone to check what the storm is doing , because being 50 yards from the safety of home and basement in  a storm that could conceivably drop a tornado. And my phone is safely sitting next to my puter. In the house

If you have a provider that offers free second sim cards you could get a cheap used emergency phone to leave in your truck. Or a cheap prepaid card.
