Joint FBI and Army Special Ops drill goes very wrong for one poor Delta pilot

The summary: In April, the FBI and Army Special Ops were allegedly conducting a joint training exercise when they botched it by entering the wrong hotel room, detained the occupant (who turned out to be not their "role-player"), cuffed him, and took him to the shower, then proceeded to interrogate him for 45 minutes before realizing the Delta pilot wasn't their guy.


A couple of things stand out to me:

The math ain't mathin'.  They breached the room at around 22:00 and interrogated the occupant for 45 minutes.  The local police were called at 00:20 regarding the incident.  What the heck was going on between 22:45 and 00:20 - one hour and thirty-five minutes of unaccounted for time as reported by this article - and who called the police? 

Where were the control and observation teams that are standard with Special Ops training of this kind especially in a civilian setting?  [My speculation - this was not a training drill as has been claimed]

Why are they training in an actual civilian setting rather than a mock civilian setting?  [Because not training, they intended to interrogate somebody else in that hotel - again, my speculation]

Does it bother anybody else that the FBI - a domestic policing agency whose jurisdiction is primarily over American citizens - is training/participating in military interrogations?  I get that there is some overlap and global action taken by the FBI to protect the US, but there are agencies better suited to the interrogation of foreign threats while domestic threats still have rights and protections under the Constitution.  So, wtf are they doing?  I don't like the implications.

The timeline is kinda hokey, I agree, but FBI trains with the military all the time and that has nothing to do with their status as domestic law enforcement and everything to do with getting the maximum "bang" for training dollars spent.  There's a lot of crossover in terms of procedures and operations between law enforcement and the military. It only makes sense to train them both at the same time.  Also, keep in mind that will FBI is primarily domestic law enforcement, they do operate globally with law enforcement partners in other countries, many of which are military.

It could have been a lot worse. This isn't the first time something like this has gone wrong. A Special Forces Candidate was killed a couple of decades ago during a legitimate vehicle traffic stop when he leapt out of the trunk on to the deputy. There have been other, less well known incidents as well. Let's just say it happens more than you might think. The film Enemy of the State was a lot more true than people realize, in the sense that legitimate training operations like that happen.

Butler was unaware the exercise was underway, while the soldiers believed the deputy was part of the training exercise, according to the sheriff's department statement.
"One of the soldiers attempted to disarm the officer, as the other was attempting to get to a military weapon that the soldiers had in their possession," the statement said. "At the time of the incident, the deputy believed that the two individuals intended on killing him, resulting in the deputy shooting both of the suspects."

A preventable tragedy due to poor coordination and monitoring.

Joint FBI and CIA operations. FBI has to leason with CIA when CIA want to operate on US soil. [apparently]

And FBI can 'investigate' outside our boarders, when doing that they can join up with our military or other country's military or police for operations.

And then there's the scenarios where the FBI acting alone captures a suspect within US boarders and needs info very quickly.
