I can't really compare with some of the more colorful individuals around here, but I'm meandered my way through various honors programs, various manual labor jobs including a zoo during middle- and high-school, through various geekery, a surprisingly unsuccessful college career, a college parttime job that turned into nearly 15 years in disaster recovery, and across to phone support when the DR job closed.  (I just dinged 20 years in that corporate group.)

During the DR stint I started some half-assed prepping, which somehow (I don't remember how, now) lead me to ZS.  It's since turned into at least three-quarter assed prepping, maybe even 7/8-assed.  One thing that was obvious even before stumbling into prepping was that having a plan outweighed any budget and material assets; I saw so many companies throw gobtons of money at DR and fail, and other companies with a shoestring budget and decent planning manage easily.
