Out of curiosity, I searched on the book and "free epub" and came across this:  https://bdebooks.com/en/books/world-war-z-by-max-brooks/  From what I was able to find, it's a legit site and they do offer a few different file types for download.  It downloaded just fine as a .pdf for me.

It appears so. I may have that epub kicking around somewhere; let me know if you need it.

He was very clear in interviews that he made the movie about how he thought the future would be.  In more recent interviews, he was surprised his predictions have been coming to fruition as quickly as they have.

I wonder how long he figured it'd take for humanity to basically become a bunch of social media addicted, brainless morons as seen in the film.

I go to my 'fast fix work area', which is a footstool at the front of my garage and my workbench is the driveway, and open up the transmission housing. 6 bolts with battery power driver #11. I don't see anything wrong Initially so pull out the first 'blade gear' #9 and still don't see any reason for me to be doing this. UNTIL I line up the blades evenly [as in the drawing] and then I can see thru the grease that the second 'blade gear' is broken. Wow.

Luckily I have an old craftsman articulating hedge trimmer that this one replaced a few years ago due to other issues. And I kept it for parts. So I pulled out the first 'blade gear' from that and used that to fix the issue. Put both hedge trimmer attachments back together and went back to work.

Note: these craftsman articulating hedge trimmers are really durable. I use to use Ryobi's snap on hedge trimmer attachments but they would only last a year before the gears would give out due to the transmission housing being made of plastic. They were cheap though and IIRC $69 each. These craftsman's have a metal transmission housing and cost upwards of $120 each. But this one has lasted since before covid. Maybe 5 years.

Hedger attachment broke again Saturday, same exact cam as previously. So I opened up the one that broke, and said, ok I have that spare attachment that I saved from before. I'll use the cam out of that. But it looked like there was a top and bottom cam.

And I'd already used the top cam out of my parts hedger attachment. Dang! That one only had the bottom  cam.

So I ordered 2 more cams this morning for $3.99 each plus $10 shipping. $20 total with tax.

Went to post this and was looking at the diagram above and just now realized that the cams are not top and bottom but exactly the same and interchangeable. So I do have an extra cam. Well, I'll have two extras once these ones I just ordered arrive.

Now you'd think I could fix the second hedger attachment but the housing is cracked. The same parts place wants $126 for the gear housing which is more than I could buy a replacement unit. So I just have spares.

We're about a week out from September, which is National Preparedness Month.  Once again, I'm planning to participate in the 30 Days 30 Ways challenge.  The goal is to do some type of preparedness activity every day for the entire month and to post about it here in this thread.  It's meant to be an interactive, social activity that everyone can do together.

This year, I'm going to focus on the "boring" side of prepping.  This comes out of a recent Urban Prepper video that addressed the topic and I liked it, since it's an important aspect.  Basically, it's the organizing / purging / reviewing / maintaining sort of stuff that is easy to forget about.  Things like purging old food, replacing expired medical supplies, making sure everything is working / charged, etc..  Here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypGJZzM-sVQ 

When September arrives, I encourage people to chime in with what you're doing to improve your preparedness.  Even if you don't do something every day, anything that you do accomplish helps you to be better prepared!  By sharing what you do, it helps others to be motivated and acts as thought-starters for the rest of us.  Remember that every little bit counts!
