Glad I switched to menstrual cups and washable pads/period panties years go. I highly recommend making the switch to any woman of menstruating age.
The chocolate shortage is the really concerning issue. So many things I can get around by making my own, but I don't think growing and processing cacao into chocolate on the small scale in my climate is feasible.

So I have a bit of a Sriracha problem, I'll admit. As long as I taste the food before I add Sriracha, my wife doesn't seem to mind.
She does mind when I add it to wide swathes of food. I guess it's the culinary equivalent of napalming the jungle.
I can recall one shortage years ago, but it was brought on by some nosy neighbors complaining about the facility. Big headlines, business owners were considering relocation...but it cleared up in a month or two.
Huy Fong had started raising the alarm on this current one months ago, because of water shortages and transportation difficulties.
Hopefully this one won't be too bad. Sriracha is such a galvanizing condiment with such loyal followers, and it's history is the ultimate immigrant success story, so it makes good headlines.
If this was Worcestershire sauce we were talking about, I don't think anyone would care.
Peanut butter, though...that's a staple.

Apparently you can substitute cocoa pouder for carob, which is grown in Italy and Portugal. With climate change it should be possible to grow it where I live, depending on what the north Atlantic current decides to do. That would at least enable me to produce some kind of Wiener nougat.
But I agree, the secure supply of chocolate is vital for our existance. Definitely.

might very well be the next thing. The agriculture in the Po delta includes fruits, vegetables, livestock and wheat. Some of this might cause permanent damage to the soil due to salinisation. I´m not sure how much impact it will have on America, but if the low rainfall continues in other parts of Europe the food industry will have even bigger problems. My municipal has already decreed that using water from rivers and streams for irrigation is punishable with a fine due to the currently low water level.
