Can you guys recommend and small sturdy containers that fit nicely in an AR15 mag pouch? I bought a chest rig with lots of mag pouches in it and I want use some of those slots for other things but haven't found a decent container yet.
What sort of other things are you planning on carrying on the chest rig ?
If you've got MOLLE panels on the rig, you could just buy pouches to carry extra stuff in instead of taking up mag space.
Pelican 1030, 1015, and R40 cases should fit in a double mag pouch.

It's the Condor Rapid Assualt chest rig, I don't want to carry this many mags so I have extra space that can be utilized for other things. I haven't decided exactly what but really the only thing I want Hanging on the front is a med kit.

I try to keep my rigs pretty streamlined as well. My lightest rig only has a med kit and mags on it right now (I've got a fixed blade knife on it as well, but I'm debating on whether or not I'll keep it on there).
As for containers to stick in the extra mag space, those Pelican cases NT2C mentioned might work.
Maybe something like this?
This is just the case without the cleaning kit: https://www.mscleankits.com/store/p3/Ms._Clean_Cases.html
*Just make sure you don't get befuddled and try to insert it into your pew-pew. :icon_crazy:

Where did you get the short section cleaning rod?
It looks just like the rods from the ol' standard army cleaning kit.
I don't like boxes because if you don't fill them completely or add 'packaging' materials the contents will make noise when bounced around. For backpacks, or pockets as well as inside pouches of any kind.
Use pouches inside of the pouches. Soft sided containers will conform to the shapes and voids and reduce noise.
