The songs "Let the bodies hit the floor" and "It's raining men" are probably about the same event, but from wildly different perspectives.
ETA: I take no credit for this random thought. I found it on a YouTube video awhile back and thought it was funny.

Much like the joke that "It's Raining Men" is the same incident as "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor," but from a different perspective, it
does make you wonder if there is some connection there.

Why do ducks have feathers?

A juggler is performing in a public park, when an Englishman, a Frenchman, a Spaniard, and a German walk by.
Realizing there's other people in the way, and they can't see him, he climbs onto a wooden crate.
"Gentlemen, can you see me now?"
"Yes."
"Oui."
"Si."
"Ja."

I don´t think the goose´s opinion was taken into account.
It would explain why some geese are so cranky. They´ve got an old feud to carry out in order to revenge the mistreatment of their kin as live torchecul in the Renaissance.

I was a typical NYC ghetto latch key kid. I was in 1st grade when they started tearing down all the buildings in my neighborhood for "urban renewal". Those half-torn down buildings and broken bricks & dirt lots became our playgrounds. Lead paint, asbestos, all the nasty shit we used to make buildings with, I came home covered in it. I still have scars from my adventures in those places with the gang I used to hang with. Yes, serious as shit NYC street gangs straight out of the late 50s, complete with gravity knives and slicked back hair... ages 6 and up. Y'all ever see
West Side Story? That was
home until we moved out of the city housing projects when I was in 6th grade.
Even better, I had a bus and train pass for the NYC subways and buses that would take me
anywhere in the city. Times Square, Harlem, Coney Island, Far Rockaway, hell, I took the LIRR all the way to the tip of Long Island a few times, just to visit the lighthouse. This was all while I was in grade school. And yes, I can think of at least two incidents that could have been attempted kidnappings. One, a guy followed me home from high school almost all the way to my house, a distance of about 20 miles by train and walking, then tried to get me to talk to him on one corner. Another was a different guy who called to me from a stopped car, asking if I'd deliver a package for him, "But get in and have a seat while I explain what you need to do." I also got mugged a couple of times, but hey, that was life in NYC back then.
As for the formal job training at an early age, yes, a lot of us who came from families with their own businesses were raised from an early age to work in that business. Mostly I think so a babysitter didn't have to be hired. I started going on construction jobs with my dad when I was six. Climbing ladders, scrambling around on roofs and scaffolding. I can honestly say that I've slid down a safety rope from a hanging scaffold on the 11th floor. Damn, that was fun; just like in gym class. About gave my dad a heart attack, I was eight.

QuoteThe children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room.
They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.
Attributed to Socrates. :icon_crazy:
(it´s a questionable attributed to, but there are verified similar remarks by Aristotle and from ancient India, so not too far fetched)

I'm not familiar with the movie (TV show? Broadway play?) but I
was on the cover of a magazine with a story about the kids living in city housing projects. Had my heavily Brylcreamed hair, ripped jeans, ripped jacket, t-shirt, and construction boots (similar to Timberlines but I think this pre-dated them)

If you like Vampires; and Almost the entire crew from Aliens: Bill Paxton, Lance Henrickson, Jenette Goldstein; and gritty, bloody movies...
You have gotta see this one. It's a different take on the genre. Very different at the time it was made. Bill Paxton is a great vampire.
The bar scene is :eek1:. And has one of my favorite movie lines ever, "Just a few more minutes of your time, about the same duration as the rest of your life."

Y'all ever see West Side Story? That was home until we moved out of the city housing projects when I was in 6th grade.
Even better, I had a bus and train pass for the NYC subways and buses that would take me anywhere in the city.

Some people say the main difference between Millenials and Gen Z is that the former were born into an analog world, and grew into a digital one, while the later never new anything but the internet.
I think a better distinction would be to go by mental health. Boomers alcoholism, Gen X opioid abuse, Milleninals depression, Gen Y anxiety. :icon_crazy:

Thats a bad quote as most millennials (per THIS chart) would have been born digital. Even the advent of AOL was early 90's. The Gen X is mostly credited with that role Ana->Dig.

I was born in 1982. We had computer labs at school by 4th grade. Might have been earlier, but that's when I remember Oregon Trail and Logos the Turtle. I was raised upper middle class and the first computer at home I remember was a Commodore 64 that we plugged cartridges in for different programs - I remember a typing game with flowers, not sure if we had any others (that might be why I can probably type faster than I can talk, and those of you who have heard me talk know why that's terrifying). Older brother got his own PC after he deleted 6 months of cash from Mom's Quicken program. Starting in elementary school, Mom tried to bribe me with a Super NES if I'd stop biting my nails - never did get that, but she did buy a Wii for the kiddos at some point. :icon_crazy:
I think I got my PC in junior high. Went to college with a tower, but by the time I'd changed schools 2 years later, I had a laptop. I had friends in college who didn't have computers or cell phones (errrr—after the first 2 years. I kinda almost flunked out of expensive private college first, so practically everybody there had stuff). They weren't something you couldn't live without at that point. Pretty certain I had several friends using my computer once I was at a "regular" university. I think that quote may be talking more about the EXPECTATIONS that you have the technology, not necessarily whether each individual had it.

My computer family tree (if you will) started with a Ti-99/4a, timex sinclar, then started the commodore(64) tandy, x86 etc. route. I had exposure to apple and the god awful monochrome screen in my late elementary years. Mid 80's I was connecting to BBS's like compuserve, prodigy and by the late 80's running a BBS myself and watching the baud rates move exponentially faster. I can still determine a baud rate by tones.

Having flashbacks here! Our first computer was a TRS-80 with no media storage of any kind. If you wanted it to do something, you programmed it and then left it turned on, since it would be gone if you turned it off. Went from that to a Tandy-1000, then a Gateway 386 in 1989 (I got the Tandy at that point). It wasn't until we'd had the Gateway for a few years that we finally got a modem, back in the era of AOL ("You've got mail!").
But a friend of mine had a 1200-baud modem for his Commodore 128 that we used to surf BBS sites. Mainly they were local (because he couldn't afford to pay long-distance rates), but there were a few that used 800# that we got on as well. He even ran his own for a while, using a 3.5" floppy, a 5.25" floppy, and a tape drive, hooked up to that Commodore!
Our schools got quite a bit of money from a local company, so we had a computer lab at my elementary school somewhere around 1983-4 and by 1985 we had a computer in every classroom - all of them Apple IIe or clones (Ace? Franklin? Something like that). I remember one of the 6th grade teachers bringing in his personal computer (it might have been an Atari) and programming it to count up to 1 million. That took several days of "10 x = 1, 20 PRINT x, 30 x = x + 1, 40 IF x = 1000000 THEN GOTO 60, 50 GOTO 20, 60 PRINT "1 Million!", 60 END" (or something along those lines - I think he had a timer function built into it as well) to complete in BASIC.
The middle school used the most Frankensteined Apple IIe that I've ever seen - a huge housing on it for a fan so that it could run all day (Apples weren't meant for that), a tangle of cords and hardware for laser scanning barcodes, and a 10Mb hard drive that was probably two feet long, a foot wide, and six inches tall! For 10Mb!
By high school the library had some IBM 386SX computers with CD-ROM drives that you could use to look up magazine articles, or access digital encyclopedias. I took a programming class in 1991 or 1992 in a classroom with a bunch of networked IBM PS/2 computers with RGB monitors. That same friend with the Commodore wrote an email program for them the next year that allowed everyone in the class to send messages to each other. Heck, back in the 80s another friend of mine started reverse-engineering Point-of-Sale systems for local businesses and doing custom programming for them (he also ran his own BBS for a while).
When I went off to college in 1993, that's when I got my own computer (a 386DX full-sized tower which weighed 66lbs). Unfortunately, the college wasn't networked in the dorm rooms for a few years yet, so I still had to live with a 2400-baud modem. Fortunately, the early internet didn't require nearly the bandwidth that it does today! I've still got a Yahoo email account which dates back to the mid-90s.
A few years ago I had to actually find pictures to convince one of my younger coworkers that I'd once had a Compaq laptop (https://preview.redd.it/hey995fesnu41.jpg?auto=webp&s=3c611629602dd412c765d46dc0be556d0a3cd1e2) for work that had a trackball built onto the side of the screen (with the buttons on the back of the laptop lid). Kids these days! :D

I'm just a few years older than you ('79), and I remember those well. You're the first person I've seen mention Logos the Turtle in ages...I was beginning to wonder.
Do you remember Number Munchers, by any chance?
Thank me later... ;)

I can still determine a baud rate by tones.
tl:dr: Put simply, Millennials - were born into a digital age. Gen X bushwacked their way from swatch watches to LED's. ;)
You want to feel REALLY old... It's what happens when you find someone who CREATED some of the programs you used...
I'm going to waste so much time playing on Turtle Academy later! :smiley_clap: I'd randomly decided to search for Logos the Turtle a few times, and wasn't able to find anything.
I think I remember Number Munchers.
And I had Swatch watches through college.

There were two factions of gamers in my neighborhood, the Pacman / Donkey Kongers faction and the Centipede / Galaga faction. I was in the Centipede fast shooter faction, I just couldn't be entertained by Pacman or Mario for some reason. They seamed so slow to me. I had to be shooting fast moving targets. LOL. It may have been the sounds too. Wacka Wacka Wacka or Bwuoop Bwuoop Bwuoop Bwuoop vs Pew Pew Pew.
Personally I went:
System / My favorite game(s)Magnavox Odyssey 2000 / [Pong]
Atari 2600 / [Space Invaders and Asteroids]
Atari 5100 / [Star Wars]
Sega Genesis / [Super Hang On, Road Rash]
Sega 32bit expansion / [Mech Warriors]
N64 / [instead of PlayStation 1, can you say Golden Eye, Turok, Legend of Zelda]
PlayStation 3 / [COD, Medal of Honor, Battlefield]
PlayStation 4 / [ :eek1: mostly FPS, Flight, and 3rd person shooters]
and if I could find one...
PS5 hopefully soon.
I started out with an Atari (I forget the model) and over the years, I moved up to an NES, SNES, Nintendo 64 (I was one of the first kids in my neighborhood to get one. Goldeneye was my favorite game on the N64), Sega Genesis, PS1, PS2, Sega Dreamcast, Gamecube and then an original Xbox.
I'm currently on an Xbox One, but one of these days I'd like to pick up an N64 again along with Goldeneye so I can relive a little part of my childhood. Biggest hurdle might be finding Goldeneye for a decent price.

I've still have my N64 and GoldenEye cartridge. The motion capture on that game blew my mind the first time I saw it, the realism of character movement in some scenes. It was probably my #1 favorite too. But Turok made me hate first person shooters even though I loved that game. Played Turok 1 and II, but that game I found I'd be playing for 15-20 minutes without blinking. LOL, It hurt my eyes. So after that I switched to Zelda which was a 3rd person. I sold my Zelda cartridge years after I beat that game, because it took about 4 months of playing to beat without any cheats or guides having figured everything out myself. But I also figured I'd never want to go thru that again.
I used to do the level/mission speed runs on that GoldenEye. I remember when i saw that the Par Time on the Opening sequence was 2 minutes and 17 seconds, I was like, "That's impossible", because it took me day's if not weeks to get thru it once without dying the first time, and when I did finally get thru without dying, it took 20 minutes of being careful not fast, but I got there eventually and beat the Par. I think I might still have a polaroid screen shot of my Par Times somewhere.
I keep wanting to hook my PVR up to the N64 and record some walkthru's or gameplay, but don't really have the time. Back in the day I'd hook my VCR up to the video game to record gameplay, so I could review where I made mistakes and improve.

Man, this hits close to home...When I was younger, one of my brothers "found" a bow and some arrows, and began firing them into the air. We ran out into the yard and held trash can lids over our heads like shields, waiting for them to come back down.
As the youngest brother, I got the plastic lid, and not one of the steel ones. The arrow punched through a few inches, narrowly missing my arm, but running parallel to it as I held up my shield. Had i not been holding that lid higher, I would have gotten an arrow in the grape. I can only imagine how my parents would have explained that one to the ER doc.
It was one of those moments where we all went from giggling madly to quietly stopping, each one of us inwardly pondering how incredibly dangerous the activity was.
That feeling didn't last long. The rest of the afternoon was a little more tame; setting up ambushes, throwing handfuls of gravel into the bushes and yelling "buckshot!" then listening for the scream of a wounded adversary. It was my earliest experience with "recon by fire."

Some context here. My company is mostly work from home and right at the beginning of the pandemic, my team decided to have two team meetings each week, just to stay in touch with each other. Early on I started doing funny xkcd-style drawings on the whiteboard which is visible behind my chair.
Today, one of my team members was enthusiastically showing off his new Crocs, to the great derision of several other team members. I quickly realized that today's whiteboard could be edited into a very timely, and funny tie-in to the conversation and switched my camera off to make the changes. Here is the result (yes, he's wearing Crocs):

I do wish the results were easier to share as an image. You can either insert the three images individually or do a screenshot to insert. Trying to share from the copied link doesn't give you an image to share.

Drunk logic - A driver in Colorado tried to switch seats with his dog to avoid a DUI arrest, police say (https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/16/us/colorado-dog-driver-dui-arrest/index.html) :icon_crazy:
QuoteA driver in Colorado tried to avoid a DUI arrest by swapping seats with his dog after being pulled over, police said. The man was stopped by police around 11:30 p.m. Saturday for allegedly driving 52 mph in a 30-mph zone, the Springfield Police Department said in a post on Facebook.
"The driver attempted to switch places with his dog who was in the passenger seat, as the SPD officer approached and watched the entire process," the post said. "The male party then exited the passenger side of the vehicle and claimed he was not driving."

How the heck do I post an image on here?
@Zed hunteryou can hotlink to an image you find on the internet. right click on the image and click on 'copy image address' to copy the link to your clipboard.
Look up in the toolbar above your reply window and click the thing that looks like a computer screen. then paste the link in the box that opens where it says 'URL'.
or you can just type the BBCode out longhand. for images its
[ img ]paste link here [ /img ]
But with no spaces between the brackets and the img and /img
If its your own image you have to upload it to a hosting site like imgur.com and then you can just copy the link from there.
Thanks. I had downloaded the image to my phone. Now I'll have to go back and find them again.
No problem.
You don't have to download them, just copy the image address and paste it.
You can also attach up to four images per post, directly to our servers. You have to do it using a regular reply to a topic, not a quick reply. (or go back and modify the post later) and you'll see a line that tells you to add images there.

You mean as a quote? Yeah, if you hit the 'preview' button after clicking on the quote button the upload attachments button is available then also.
But attachments don't display in your list of posts. That's why I like 'inserting' them.

Well yes, if you want the attachment to be displayed in the post then you have to use the insert function, but the image is still then hosted on our server. That makes it easier to display a picture from a phone or laptop, instead of having to find a site to host it and then linking to it.

I hate to be the downer here, but that's not real, at least the part where they go flying into the air. It you watch, the first guy actually accelerates once he's in the air. The hit from the bull was nowhere near strong enough / fast enough to launch him like that. Someone took a video of the bull and people in the hamster balls and edited it to make it look like they're being flung through the air, rather than just being tossed backwards. The landing doesn't exactly obey the laws of physics either if you look at the way it bounces around.
Now as for the stupidity of people going out there against a bull, wearing what amounts to a glorified exercise ball, that's an entirely different thing...

All of that is just nuts and would have me trapped in an inflated ball full of vomit and probably fully passed out on the ground. Then again, my vagus nerve responds if I swallow wrong, but I really wonder about people who just don't seem to have any kind of visceral response to anything.
I've done a lot of stupid things in my 38 years on this primitive mudball inhabited by psychotic apes, but even I'm not dumb enough to step into the ring with a 2,000 pound animal that wants to hurt me.
That's a special kind of stupid right there.

Speaking only for myself, I've never been drunk to the point where getting into a rodeo ring with a bull seemed like a good idea.
I have, however, walked into a fence, a washing machine and a support post for an awning while drunk. :smiley_crocodile:

I'm not saying I was dumb in my younger days, but it would have taken very little "intoxicating substance" (choose your favorites, I tried 'em
all) to get me to do this stuff. I was a bit of a danger junkie.

A nervous skydiver on his first solo jump is going through a last-minute check with his instructor.
"Just jump, pull your main ripcord, and wait three seconds," the instructor says. "If your main chute doesn't deploy, wait three seconds and pull your reserve ripcord. If you miss the drop zone, walk to the nearest road and flag down the bus. The bus route goes right past the drop zone."
The skydiver jumps and pulls his main ripcord.
Nothing.
He waits three seconds and pulls his reserve ripcord.
Still nothing.
"I'll bet anything that damned bus doesn't show up, either." He says to himself.

<laughing> Oh my gosh, that was supposed to be so, um, clever?... maybe on paper? Oh the other hand, the reality maybe not so much. There are some problems, as you do point out. LOL
And... the visual is so very ROLFLOL!
Back in the 90s, when I was a kid and collected comic books, I remember a comic I had where the main character (or possibly another character in the comic) wore a vest that had about as many pockets as that jacket.
Looked just as goofy in comic form as it does in real life.
It's from some designer in Japan and dates back about 30 years from what I read, so there could be an actual tie-in to a comic book! They're also insanely expensive! https://www.grailed.com/browse/general-research-175-pocket

Two cajun good ol boys were tipping back a few at the local bar and eatery watching a beautiful lady eating crawfish for the first time. She sucked a tail onto her airway and started choking. One of the good ol' boys jumped up, ran over, grabbed her drawers yanked them down and licked her hind end. She let out a scream that sent the offending tail across the room. He pulled her drawers back up and returned to his table. His buddy said, " That was amazing you saved her life!". "Ya I'm glad I heard about that hind lick maneuver ".
