Title: Low propability of intercept communications on HF (or CB)
Post by: TACAIR on August 11, 2021, 05:02:16 PM
Encrypting communication in the US is Verboten.  Fines start at 10K and go up.

Having said that, you can legally alter your voice comms to provide some level of privacty.

Enter the FrreeDV app and appliance.

https://kk5jy.net/smalldv-v1/  using a Raspberry PI

https://www.rowetel.com/?p=6747  commercial off the shelf product  - need SSB modulation to work on HF. or, where allowed, with FM

https://www.rowetel.com/?page_id=3902  appliance demo  (About $200 each and you will need 2)

Very nice.

Just some open source stuff I've been exposed to says "field craft" can be used to create some level of comms privacy too. Particularly with regard to radio direction finding and using directional antennas for comms.

If it emits RF, the .mil can find you and in short order.

Rivet Fire or Compass Call.  Of course, if these guys are looking for you, you may have already lost....

I feel like the Taliban and Al Qada would differ? I don't know. Could be recent political events weighing on me.

And what I've read, I understand that certain comms were intercepted, it just didn't matter. There was too much going on, and anything really important was sent by messenger.
