Title: Peter Thiel Flees US - Taxes, Nuclear War, AI Meltdown
Post by: Uomo Senza Nome on May 29, 2026, 10:46:08 AM
Title pretty much says it all.

The vast majority of billionaires in California have fled the state in the last 18 months due to the upcoming "one time billionaire tax". Most went to Texas or Florida which have no state income tax, a couple went to Tennessee for the same reason. George Clooney, whose net worth is likely very close to a billion, fled to France.

Thiel didn't think this was far enough and relocated his family to a large compound in Argentina. He expressed concerns about war geopolitics and the possibility of an AI singularity and felt that South America might sit out the next world war much as it did the last two.

I can't say as I blame him. Nor any of the CA billionaires. Or anyone else that left (including myself) for that matter.

There's a huge fallacy that all Californians are wack jobs. California (like most states) has a huge divide between rural and urban. The state is massive geographically. And iirc one of the top ten economnies of countries in the world - and it's a state.

But the entire state is run by two tiny counties. The vast majority of the state geographically is rural and very different politically from those two counties. The upper half of CA has been trying to secede for decades. Like a real concerted effort. The same thing (rural vs urban) has been happening in other states. WA is very similar. Where I'm from and a big reason I won't move back there. The eastern half of that state has been trying to secede for years as well. Oregon has similar problems. But I think the rural/urban problem is universal in most states with a big city or cities. I'm not sure how you fix that problem. Where a geographically small area decides the rules for the entire state. And both rural and urban face such different issues. And in such different ways.

There are even very large conservative counties in Southern California. Not just the more northern or eastern and northern swath of the state. The fallacy that everyone in CA thinks like those two small counties does not hold true. Many of the residents have been upset with CA as the rest of the nation.

I've heard horror stories of previous CA citizens being treated poorly when they move. But to be fair equal number of stories of Californians taking strange politics to the rural cities they end up in. Boseman MT comes to mind.

CA has also changed with the influx of illegal foreigners. It's probably the largest sanctuary state in the nation. I lived thru that change and saw it first hand. Los Angeles (again a small area of the entire state but highly populated) has become a third world country - literally. I no longer felt safe. Let alone welcome.

If I had billionaire money it would be the last place I would live.

Basically it has been engineered into one big voting block. And running powerful rich billionaires out. Further solidifies that control. I am ham strung by our no politics rule to discuss this even further. But more than ever politics seems to be driving more need for prepping than ever before.

That is the primary disaster facing California's citizens. Civil unrest brought on by politics. But it's very difficult to discuss how bad it is without talking about so many issues that are political issues.

Civil unrest has already hit LA county a few times, in major ways, recently. It is largely lawless. And looks destined to be a third world country within a country.

The safest thing you can do - if you can afford to - is simply move from a disaster prone area.

And this isn't me saying you should move because of politics. You should move simply because it's an unsafe place. Civil unrest and crime has taken over Los Angeles and nother cities in the state.

They came to Colorado and changed it onto California II.
