Two rules for this new topic:
1) It has to be a vehicle you actually encountered in real life, not some cool picture you lifted from the internet.
2 Be mindful of op sec and considerate of your kindred preppers - mask/erase/blur any license plates or other personally identifying information in your photos. It's pretty easy - I was going to do it the old fashioned way with a wide brush in the MS Photos app, but I discovered it now comes with AI erase. It allows you to specify a general area and then figures out what in the target area you actually want erased (ie, the letters/numbers on a license plate), without obscuring other details, like the rear ladder visible in the first photo.
I'll start: spotted this UK-domestic market Land Rover Defender parked at my local supermarket. Just look at this thing! It's got the expected rear hitch (plus a front rescue hitch), bull bar and winch. But it's also fully kitted out with rooftop luggage rack, tent, and tool box. That antenna suggests enhanced coms, it's got auxillary lighting (front, sides and rear), side mounted deployable awning, off-road traction boards, even a snorkel for fording streams. About the only thing missing that I can see is one or two jerry cans. I don't care if it's right hand drive, I seriously covet this beast. Anyone know what that flat, surf-board shaped thingie is on the roof rack?

Is that flat thingie maybe a paddleboard?
Also...that's one purdy vehicle!
That is a nice vehicle and it's a right side drive which makes me like it even more.

Haha! I deserve a dope slap for that - I bet you're right. So the answer to my question "what is that surfboard-shaped thingie?" is: It's a surfboard shaped thingie - i.e. a paddleboard, dummy!
Some years back I was admiring what seemed to be a nicely-set-up Jeep. Good lift--practical but not extreme. Good tires. Good, if a little odd-looking, racks for gear and bumpers with heavy-duty winches in place.
WTF?!?!?! The rear bumper that appeared to be a compressed-air tank was cracked! Damn thing was PVC. . . like the gear racks. How do you use a winch that is fastened to a piece of plastic pipe?
I dropped to the ground and checked: it was 2wd! Now there are those like me who generally choose ground clearance over 4wd . . . but this guy was just a poser. Since then, any time I see a capable vehicle I look for things that are just a bit "off".
What kind of lunatic hauls around paddleboards in freezing weather?

They're called "Mainers". :smiley_knipoog:
I mean could always be the other surfboard shaped object for winter, aka a snowboard too, would fit the weather more.
Maybe it is an ironing board? You don't want to be the only walking around wrinkled in the PAW.
I'm this close to editing the title of this thread to "What's could that surfboard-shaped object atop this BOV possibly be?" Please, someone post a picture of another bug out vehicle!
I'll settle for a Corolla with snow tires at this point ....
