This is an interesting development. The feds claimed to have discovered 300 servers with 100,000 sim cards that could have been used to tie up telecoms in NYC. There are farms like this all over the US typically for sending spam texts as well as legit text for businesses. These could not be used to disrupt local cell service.

It is likely that this is a spam farm as well. Apparently several of the SIM cards were idled as the source of swatting calls.
Unfortunately there are other farms like this out there. They likely use the spam and scam user fees to finance the operation.

Do you mean the scammers pay a fee to use the server system? Financing the facility. :smiley_shrug: They also mention it could be setup by state operators and Cartels, which would mean initially it'd be internally financed until enough subscribers could make it profitable to maintain until you need it to crash the system.

We all get spam and scam texts and phone calls. These normally have cell phone numbers. They originate at farms like these. There are likely a lot of these farms. No doubt there are operated by a different groups for different reasons.
Nk has been know to run sophisticated scams ro steal billion$. If the purpose for this farm was to assist with an attack, why not use it make money to cover the cost and take in some extra cash.

I've never seen one of these places in person and when I saw that photo I also thought that looks a little bizarre what's amazing is how close the antennas are to each other I imagine that's because they don't operate simultaneously but rather only on occasion and at a distance from one another.

Yeah, if they were all using the same frequency and not broadcasting simultaneously, then you'd think they could be wired into one antenna.
There's four banks of 16 antenna per unit. = 64 antenna.
Each row of sim cards has 16 and there are 16 rows. = 256 sim cards per unit.
At least some are sharing antenna.
There's 12 modules of 256 cards per shelf system. I count 6 shelf racks in that one photo. That's 18,432 cell phones in that one photo.
