Title: Attack in New Orleans
Post by: Z.O.R.G. on January 01, 2025, 08:55:50 AM
New Orlean PD is calling it terrorism, FBI stated it isn't.  Fits my definition though.

Truck driver has been identified (I'm not posting is name) and was wearing full body armor, had a Glock, a .308 rifle, and had explosives/IED in the truck.  They're also looking at other suspects.  FBI stating it is a terrorist act.

It is confirmed as a terrorist incident.

This is a link to the terrorist lying dead in the street in fatigues...(CAUTION NSFW & GRAPHIC!) ... They have ID'ed him but I am not putting his name here. Click here at your own risk.

35 people were injured and at least 10 have died. He was able to access Bourbon Street a key tourist hotspot and always crowded on event nights (line the Sugar Bowl) and used his truck as a weapon. Apparently the bollards used to block the street safely were "down for repairs". Seriously ... oversight of simple things like this is typical of the NOLA city mismanagement, but I digress.

There are photos of a flag on the truck but there is what is claimed to be an earlier video that shows there was no flag. So no telling. I would note that area has private and/or public CCTV cameras on almost every structure. There should be a lot of video.

It was also reported that there was a fire set about 1/2 a mile away as a distraction.

Anyway they are weighing the option of cancelling the Sugar Bowl but is suspect it will go on as planned.

BTW the Super Bowl is in NOLA in 2025 as well as Mardi Gras. So these will be interesting this year.

I'm wondering if this schmuck was inspired by the German Christmas market attack from last year.

I figured it'd only be a matter of time before someone here in the US pulled a similar attack.

It's happened here before in New York. Dude rented a uhaul pickup and drove it into a crowd a few years ago.

Not surprising, since Al Qaeda and ISIS both posted tips and tricks for this kind of attack in their Jihadi magazines.

The Sugar Bowl has been postponed until tomorrow.

Locals are claiming that the D-bag managed to get in by driving on the sidewalk and not through the barriers. The CYA is already starting. If the barriers were down for repair, put a garbage truck there. Movable jersey barriers. Something.

There may possibly be a link between the New Orleans attack and the Cybertruck explosion in Las Vegas.  Both vehicles were rented from the same company which is a pretty wild coincidence given the timing if the incidences aren't related.
