Ok, I am building some IFAKs, as I mentioned in another post. One website recommended having an nasophyrangeal tube in the kit as a basic item. Do you have them in your kit and do you recommend them or are they a item for people with more specialized training?

They're $2 on Aliexpress. I asked my stepdaughter her opinion since she is a nurse and a former head nurse in an ER, what size was best and she said they didn't use them at her hospital. I am inclined not to buy any, but I wanted more input from people who have more experience than me.
The ole "someone in the group may have training" thing applies on this I feel. I advise against using them yourself without proper training. Also, depending on your scenario you've gotta think about whether or not a hospital is accessible. If not, then what's the point?

Yeah, 35-40 years ago when I was driving a horizontal taxicab in NYC (AKA: ambulance) my partner had a few in his kit and got busted for just having them by a NYS DoH inspector. The inspector thought my partner was just an EMT, since that's all the ID he and I wore, and EMT's weren't trained on them or authorized to use them. But what the inspector was soon to find out was that my partner was also a licensed respiratory therapist who happened to enjoy work as an EMT.
That's about the last time I can think of them being carried or used.
I really don't have an opinion, however, I do keep them in the trauma kit.

I don't know how to use one, so I decided not to include any. If I get a chance to upgrade my knowledge and skill set, I might include them, as well.

Probably not in an IFAK. IMO an IFAK or FAK is for you to use on or help yourself or others. So if you don't know how to use something in there its waisted space. Add more Gauze rolls.
But in a TCCC IFAK; IMO is something you carry for someone else to use on you. Who hopefully may have the training and know what to do. [is there a doctor in the house?] If you are building a TCCC IFAK then yes keep a nasopharyngeal tube and a decompression needle in addition to all the other TCCC stuff.
You can get the NT's anywhere. The decompression needles you can get on North American Rescue, put them in your cart and then you have to verify you qualify to buy by checking a box saying you are qualified. :smiley_shrug: Don't buy from anywhere but a medical supply website, because any other site will sell you a 'piercing needle' as a decompression needle, and its the wrong size.

There are also TCCC training courses available. Some trainers may require prerequisites.

Oh, ok.
I worked on both basic EMT and paramedic ambulances (both staffed out of a Level 1 trauma center ER). Basic EMTs used nasopharyngeal airways if they couldn't get a regular oral airway in.
If you're on a paramedic rig or in an ER, you go right to intubation. You may stock nasopharyngeal airways, but you never use them.
