Hi everyone,
I was yadayada on the old ZS as well. Retired after a 37 year military and LE career. I was surprised the old ZS was gone, but that's life.
Part of being retired is doing exactly what you want. I had the start of a book in the old fan fiction section, Badlands. It had a pretty good number of views. I started the story in 2012, finished it in 2021 after retiring and finally published 2024. Badlands is the tale of a former green beret and his family banding together with friends and family to survive the zombie apocalypse. It's my first novel and I've recieved some fairly positive feedback so far.
Prior to LE, I spent 14 years on active duty, army reserve and army national guard, all of it in either airborne infantry or army SF. During my 23 year LE career, I had the peripheral duties of a firearms instructor for 22 years and SWAT for 12.
Part of the reason for writing my book was although I enjoyed reading fan fiction, the depiction of firearms handling and tactics was not realistic. I guess my version of tactics dealing with zombies are as realistic as anyone else's, but I wrote the weapon handling in my novel with realism in mind.
I've been a part of the preparedness community for a long time. I enjoyed ZS fun take on it. Sadly, I think emergency preparedness is more relevant now than ever.
If you enjoy firearms (pew pews), edged weapons (pointy stabbies slashies) and tales of the ZA, my book is Badlands by Patrick Kleckner, available on Amazon. If I've violated a rule, moderators, I apologize and do with this post as you will. If it survives, I'll post a link to the book.
It's good to be back.
Here is the link to my book if anybody cares: Badlands https://a.co/d/en8ppG0
Welcome (back, sort of) to the forums!
Glad that you found us!
Welcome, Yadayada.
I seem to recall the Badlands story, but I'm not 100 percent sure if I'm thinking of the correct one or another one.
Did yours have one of the main protagonists get blown up in a helicopter at some point in the story ?
No protagonist blown up in a helo in my story. My protagonist did clear his house of zombies with a Mossberg 590 with a fixed bayoner. i 'm glad to be back.

Oh, ok. So I was thinking of another story then.

Phew! I was going to say: Dude! Spoiler alert?
Yadayada would have been (or is, as the case may be ...) totally justified in lying in his response.

Good point, Major.
Honestly, I forgot the name of the story I'm thinking of. I think it may have been a story by Groucho or maybe Ponyboy314 (I think that's his name.).

I'm just bustin' your chops. Even if it was that story, I wouldn't have known
which major protagonist bites it in the helicopter right?
I mean, I watch my favorite family Christmas movie every year knowing perfectly well what happens to Hans Gruber in the end :icon_crazy:

That's true.
I mean it's not like I said [Redacted] dies in a helo explosion in Chapter [Redacted] during the big [Redacted]. :greenguy:
That was a long thread on something that WASN'T in my book. Makes me realize how much I missed the forums. Love it.
