So we bought that 1000lb Paracord on sale some time ago. Really good stuff. But limited colors. I found some on Walmart from Paracord Planet. With better colors. I think both said it was 4mm and 12 core.
But man!
This stuff is ridiculously thick! What the hell am I going to use this for?!

I haven't cut it open. But it's obviously knock off. I question it's 1000lb weight rating.
I finally ordered some mule tape to try out. It's the 1/4-inch variety, which is supposedly specc'd for 1250lbs. I've heard that it doesn't always hold knots very well as it's so slippery. But I found some on sale to try out. Figured that 500ft for $18, it's worth a shot.
Don't think I've got any of the heavy-duty paracord though. That's quite the chonky cord! Really it's more of rope at that point I think!

Reminds me of some of the paracord I've picked up at Walmart in the hardware section.
I usually end up taking out a couple of the inner strings and seeing if that makes it a bit less stiff. Sometimes it does, but other times it doesn't make a difference.

Mule tape is awesome. I bought about 100ft of the 2500lb stuff several years ago. It's in my vehicle bag.
I have a roll of that thick stuff in neon green. It makes good cat toys and works very well for lashing gear down on a roof rack. It holds knots well and is easier to untie when you want to.

The Walmart's near me get that stuff in from time to time and it's just as thick as the stuff Moab got. The Walmart stuff only comes in black as far as I've seen, though.
Lol! This post is from like 2 years ago. But I brought both if these with me to the Phillipines. And I have used rhenhell out of green stuff. Clothes line for one at just about about every place I've lived. And a ton of other stuff. I still have that thick brown stuff. But still haven't found a use for it. Lmao! Everytime I need some cordiage. It just seems like it's to thick and probably won't hold a knot. But honestly I haven't tried.
I forgot about that 1/4" mule tape. I have half ince at home in my vehicle ghb. The thing to keep in mind is that at 1250 or 2500 strength - if you double, triple or quadruple it that's a lot of weight. I think I could tow a car with enough wraps if the half inch. And the way it's woven I think a knot would hold fast for sure. But I like the idea of the 1/4" better. That seems like it has way more uses. Like it would make a great ridge line up to anything as heavy as you needed to secure. The half inch stuff is a bit bulky when rolled up. But I would bet by volume 1/4 inch mule tape at 1250. Would be alot smaller and more manageable than an equivalent amount of 550. I would want to dye it tho. The white is an annoyingly bright white. And being nylon or whatever it is it doesn't seem like it will get darker dirty anytime soon.
I say 1/4 inch mule tape for the win. I highly suggest trying some out and maybe a dark born RIT dye bath in an old pot. That stuff is really amazing. I'll have to look at the specs of like bank line tho. And see how it compares. If someone made colored mule tape that would be a superior option to just about any other cordiage I have seen.

You should look into finger knitting. I bet that thick cord would be great for knitting something goofy with just your hands. Maybe even knit a ground pad or something.
