I wanna find some rigid tubing that Paracord will slide thru. I think a 3/16 ID would work.
Something like this:

I want to cut it 1 inch long. To make something like this:

That's an ETS Paracord Mount. It's to attach a rifle sling using Paracord. But they cost $30 for a set of two!
I figure I can make the same thing with simple plastic tubing.
Any ideas where I can easily find a cheap plastic tubing like that? HD? Lowes? Hobby Lobby?
Wander the aisles of Home Depot/Lowes until you spy something that works.
It happens a lot less often in a big box DIY store than in a decent hardware store, but I'm sometimes asked by staff what I'm looking for. I've found it often to helps to let the person know what it is you're trying to do, rather than asking where to find the specific product you have in mind. Knowledgeable (again, usually hardware store) staff can often steer your towards something that will work even better than what you first envisioned.
What about fiberglass?

Or use old tent poles?

Oh damn man! Thats perfect! I wonder if I need to coat it with a varathane or something? I'm gonna have to cut it. And I was gonna grind a groove in the end for the Paracord to run and help keep it in place.
I'll look at HD and Lowes too. Getting someone knowledgeable is hit or miss. But I usually do just that, Majorhavoc. Tell them what I am trying to do. I don't ever seem to go to HD with a product in mind. More like looking for a solution to some crazy idea I have. Lol.
I know they make a ton of beads for Paracord projects. But those guys really into it must do something similar.
Why don't you just get a pack of D Rings and then tie the paracord to that. D Rings are relatively cheap.

If you completely wrap the ring in paracord it would silence it if noise is an issue.
Got a response on Bushcraft USA. Guy said to figure 8 it will keep it in place. Looks like a perfect solution:

Another guy pointed out his at Lowe's. They come black too.

This is some gas line rubber tubing I got at an auto parts store. .25" ID x .5"(?).
This is not the color paracord I will use. But this is 12 strand high-quality paracord. Had to use a punch to get both loops thru the tubing. But as you can see it takes a nice tight bite into the rubber tubing. So I think the rubber tubing is the best option. It does not feel like it is going to come loose or come out.
What would a better knot set be for attaching this to a firearm?
1) I think there should be an additional knot just below where the rubber tubing sits in the sling. To better secure the tubing inside the sling end. Like tight up against the end of the sling/tubing.
What knot should that be you paracord experts?
2) Is there a better knot and/or location for attaching it around the mlok of my AR's handguard? I also thought about perhaps putting a simple mlok hole or looped fastener in the hardguard to attach the paracord to(?). I can loop thru two mlok holes but it's a bit sharp.
Something like this. But with better knots?

One of these?

The uppers would work on the buttstock as it has a QD mount hole in it. But a bit sharp to thread 550 thru.

I'd be worried about melting the paracord with this setup. also wear and tear. Figure out a QD knot to use. Is 12 strand fatter than 5 or 7? Doesn't look it in the photo. Can you find any thin Kevlar cordage? That'd probably be expensive though.

I have one of these BFG Wire Loops for looping thru MLOK, also its QD. Not meltable. Got onsale for $22.50

I agree. I think tieing it to mlok is a poor idea. It's to sharp and to close to heat.
12 strand paracord is 1000lb instead of 550lb. I bought it when this went on sale in the bargain section. It is a bit fatter. But not much. Why I used it. I will look at kevlar.
I think the mlok loops:
Screenshot_20240828_205831_AliExpress.jpgScreenshot_20240828_210100_AliExpress.jpg
Would work better than attaching to the mlok rail itself. For obvious reasons. The first one above is a bit square. Which might wear on the paracord more. But either seems a better idea than the sharp/heat of the actual rail.
I don't want to use anything metal or anything that will make noise. I saw those rubber coated metal cable ones you posted. But don't really want to spend $20+ each for them. (I wonder if those cable keychains would work though? Or making your own with cable and crimps.) They still make more noise than paracord. I don't even really want to use the single point QD mount on the buttstock.
I think I'll try one of the two mlok loop mounts on the front. And simply tie the paracord directly to the buttstock. I think if I end up adding anymore hardware it will be to make the sling detachable. That seems like the only advantage to me in giving up stealth and adding more hardware.
Anyone got any better knot ideas? Regardless of what I attach it too on the rifle. It seems I need at least one knot around the rubber tubing/sling. And one around wherever it attaches to the rifle.
I know maybe 4 knots. And am not good at knots or remembering anything more complicated than a barrel knot maybe. Palomar, square knot, barrel knot, that's about the level of my knot tieing. I don't want to do braids or anything. Just wondering out loud what other knots I might consider.
Also thought about using some shrink tubing as well over the paracord.
If you make your own cable loop you can put either heat shrink tubing or silicone tubing to make it quieter.
I did a monkey fist knot on the paracord connector I had on this stock. YouTube is great for learning knots.

That's a Kevlar loop also in that photo. It's thick.

How much is Kevlar?

I actually ordered that last week. Lol. Still waiting for delivery. But it is the perfect solution for attaching paracord. And avoiding barrel heat.
