Title: The ULTIMATE Survival Yacht.
Post by: Moab on April 23, 2024, 04:13:53 AM
For you and your SEAL team. An 87 ft yacht. Made of very thick aluminum. Capable of going from the US, across the Atlantic, up the English Channel. And back again. On one tank of fuel.

Includes a desalination system. Solar panels topside and 40 kilowatts of lithium battery bank. Two 350 hp engines. Cruises at 12 knots. But optimally at 8 to 9 knots. Where it is optimized for the fuel consumption that can take it across the Atlantic - twice.

It has a full set of scuba tanks and equipment to refill them. Full kitchen. Sleep 7 people in births. And another maybe 3 on couch's.

Every thing is also built in sets of two mechanically. So double redundancy. You can maintain one while the other is running.

Large mechanical booms for loading and off-roading anything. Not dependant on hydraulics. You can also replace the steering system with a keel. For full mechanical steering without electricity.

Very well equipped. But designed and outfitted for simple long sea voyages. It's not fancy like a luxury yacht. More functional. But beautiful at the same time.

It was designed and built by a company that designs and builds ocean crossing sail boats.

$8,000,000 to $10,000,000,

I dream about things like this. If only it had a short mast and was also a motor sailor. Put a .50 cal fore and aft. And convert part of the repair room into an armory.

Oh yes. There are many. Like I said "fantasy". Lol. For 10m it should be bulletproof.

I live in the middle of nowhere, so me buying a 10 million dollar yacht would be dumb.

For the same price or a little less, I could probably buy a decent sized chunk of land and build myself a nice Burt Gummer inspired compound.

Yes. But if Earth flooded. And it turned into Waterworld. Imagine the chicks you'd get?!

😉

The thing that blew me away was the range. I think it can go for like 7500 nautical miles or something.  And that with the aluminum hull you could go alot more places than a wood or fiberglass boat. It's also so protected by all the heavy submarine type doors. It's pretty protected from sinking.

The overall build quality, technology, redundant systems, and function over fancy impressed me. No wood to refinish. Nothing seemed "extra". Nothing is ornate. Just simple survival at sea. I don't really see it as a yacht so much as a long range vessel.

But again, no sail. I think with its very shallow draft it might not be possible. The builders wanted it ti go in shallow water. And the shallow draft is key to it's range. It hydroplanes more than a normal yacht. Giving it maximum fuel efficiency.

But ya. A sailboat or motor sailor would make more sense. This is built as more of an ocean going exploration vehicle. Like something you could take up a river or into colder or warmer climates.

But I don't dare go down this rabbit hole of the best PAW boat. I have enough obsessions. Lol! I just saw this video and thought "wow what a cool boat to have in the apocalypse!".

I have always dreamed of buying an old aircraft carrier and turning the deck into a farm so I can have a farm, but also make my own rules and hopefully never have to encounter people.  I am fully aware that dream is incredibly unrealistic since an aircraft carrier very likely requires a crew to run it, but I can probably make that work.

How many acres is that thing?

It's the USS Ford and has approximately 9 acers of desk space on the flight deck.  However, it has a total of 25 decks and is nuclear powered.  With unlimited electric and water (desalination) can we say hydroponics?

I sense a story here...   It's the PAW and Anianna is by the coast and sees the USS Ford off coast putting boats out to forage the coastline.  She greats them and asks why they're not growing food on the ship.  As the crew has been depleted, Anianna, her family and a bunch of UFoZSers are invited on to set up onboard gardens and a homestead.  The rest is high seas adventure....

So it's pretty much Rivet City from Fallout 3 except the ship is mobile instead of stuck at the dock like in the game ?
